Craig Allen Knox

Craig Knox, 69, of Byron, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, January 7, 2022, after a lengthy journey of medical obstacles.

Craig was born October 19, 1952, in Spring Valley, MN, to Roland and Kathleen (Balbach) Knox. He grew up in Spring Valley and graduated in 1971. After high school Craig moved to Colorado where he met and fell in love with Martha Bradbury. On June 9, 1973, Craig married Martha, the love of his life in Spring Valley. Their life together was full of love, laughter, and happiness.  Craig always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. He will always be remembered for his love of life and the way he could light up a room with his jokes and laughter and his ability to make everyone feel loved and important.

Craig is survived by his wife Martha; his 4 kids: Melissa Knox, Molly (Kenny) Jones, Betsy (Jake) Meyer, and Ben (Jessica) Knox; 1 granddaughter, Savannah, and 2 grandsons, Roland and Calvin; 4 sisters, 2 brothers, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.

His life will be celebrated in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 12, from 4-7pm. A memorial mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Thursday, January 13, at 11am with Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Arbor Day Foundation.

Condolences

The family of Craig Allen Knox has received the following condolences.

I'm so sorry to read about Craig. I worked with him at RCTC. He always had a smile and brought joy wherever he went. I miss seeing his face around campus. He will always hold a special place in my heart - he was so kind.  My thoughts are with you.

Marti and family,

Life is too short as you have found out with your loss.  May you have many memories to help you smile through your tears.  Marti, you have been missed more than you will ever know at work… I think of the old days often.  Now it is time to take care of yourself.

Thinking of you all,  Lori Maring

I remember Craig as one of the most friendliest and down to earth people I have ever met. I worked at R.C.TC and entered the building through the east entrance. It seemed like every morning he would always be outside already working and in a great mood. I enjoyed our quick conversations so much that when entered the building I took with me his positive attitude.  I will never forget at the end of every conversation with Craig he would always say "Enjoy your Day". I say to you Craig I appreciate your friendship and the encouraging conversations we had and it is because of you I did enjoy working so many days at R.C.T.C. and enjoying so many of my days. James Scott (Jim)

My heart goes out to you all, I’m so sorry for your loss. May time let your heart heal and knowledge that Craig is in a better place without pain. Glad you all can celebrate Craigs life with friends and family! ????.

So much love to you all

Shelly Higgins

Dear Martha and family,

Wanted to send are thoughts and prayers during this difficult time...May you find comfort in his Love.

Love,

Your Naighber,

Teresa and Randy

Big personality, warm and wonderful heart!  My memories go way back to early elementary school, and are “dancing” in my head these past few days.  RIP old friend.

I had the pleasure of working with Craig for many years at RCTC.  Since we both loved gardening and landscaping, during our early years working together many of our conversations revolved around campus beautification.  Craig took great pride in making sure the grounds were welcoming to students, staff and visitors.  I'm quite certain he didn't appreciate my suggestion that we brighten the exterior with holiday lights...but he happily complied and received many compliments for his efforts.  During later years, I often parked on the east side of the campus just to experience his ever-present smile, warm greeting and lively chat as he was busy making sure the East Building was always looking good.  Sending thoughts, prayers and sympathy to Martha and family.

I worked with Craig for nearly 30 years, but really got to know him the past 10 or so. A couple times each week we would talk about the Minnesota Wild, playing hockey, his grandkids, motorcycle adventures, or Montana. He kept the campus clean, but really had the grounds looking their best when he was working outside. Some of his garden beds were beautiful, and inspired me to do more landscaping around my home. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences to Craig's wife, kids and grandkids.  I had the pleasure of working with Craig at RCTC for many years.  I always looked forward to his cheerful upbeat personality, he had a way of turning a frown upside down.  He was truly the ray of light for me on my mornings.  He shared so many stories about his bike trips, the love he had for his wife and especially his kids and grandkids.  I'm so sad to hear of his passing, I knew he was in a lot of pain but he never let it show.  He truly was special and will be sadly missed.

I knew Craig growing up and played a thousand games with him in all sports. He always regardless of his health stayed involved. RIP my friend.

I will always remember Craig as a fun loving, kind hearted and spirited individual.  My condolences and prayers of peace to Craig’s family.  RIP Craig

To my beloved Sister. So sorry for the loss of your wonderful husband.

Now God has a great Angel.

Love to you

So sorry for your loss. Craig was a wonderful person!! God bless you all

Hello, please accept my deepest condolences on Craig's passing. I knew and worked with Craig for many years at RCTC and we talked often, especially about gardening! I respected and admired him greatly. He was one of the most unselfish, kindest, gentlest souls I've ever known. While he was head groundskeeper, our campus literally bloomed. I, along with several other colleagues, often stopped to admire and photograph the various garden beds he had tucked in here and there around campus. I loved how he would take some dark little space at the corner of a building or along a bland, brick wall and transform it into something colorful and alive. It seemed every season you'd pass by and find these little "surprise' gardens where the previous year there had been nothing. His daily kindness and cheerful conversation was well loved by all who knew him, staff and students alike. I usually saw him each morning as I was walking into the building and looked forward to a few minutes' conversation with him. He greeted everyone with a ready smile and a hearty hello. What a lovely person. I am sad to hear of his passing but I'm sure there is a special place in heaven for him. I like to think he will be planting some lovely gardens there.

With kindest regards and deepest sympathies

Molly I am so sorry for your loss

  • Thinking of you and wishing you moments of peace and comfort as you remember and celebrate Craig's life.

I am sorry to hear of Craig's passing.  I remember him as always smiling, enthusiastic and very respectful to everyone.  My condolences to all of his family members and very close friends.  I am aware that Craig had ongoing medical problems and always thought he could have been a very good athlete had they not held him back. He had a great competitive spirit, and I am sure that was a positive for him during his entire life.

My prayers continue for Marti, Melissa, Molly, Betsy and Ben all of their families and especially his five grandkids.

Heaven gained an angel and the world lost the most caring and giving person that I've ever known. I am so sorry for your loss.
