Cora Brackenbury

Cora Ann Brackenbury, 89, of Rochester passed away on Tuesday January 15, 2013 at Sunrise Cottages.

Cora Ann Brackenbury (Felt) was born on April 4, 1923 in Pleasant Grove, MN to Sam and Hazel Felt, one of seven children.  She went to school in Pleasant Grove until seventh grade.  After her home burned down, she transferred to a country school.  She then went to Anoka High School for two years then Chatfield High School for two years.  She came to Rochester to work at Snow-Cap Root beer stand; that is where she met her future husband, Babe.  They fell in love and were married February 22nd, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. She retired in 1978 to take care of Babe who had Parkinson’s disease and to raise her grandchildren. Babe passed away on January 19, 1994.  They lived in an apartment on North Broadway until moving to 906 12th Avenue NE where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Survivors include their daughters Corinne Ann and Lesa Helen; Grandchildren Cally and Kyle whom they loved very much; great grandchildren Jensen, Liam, Mekhi, Annalise; and one sister Georgia Holtegaard.  She is preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, 3 sisters.

Cora enjoyed golfing, bowling and teaching bowling to younger people.  She has had great friends all her life and feels very, very, proud and happy.  “I love you all and God Bless”, Cora.

The funeral for Cora will be at 11:00am Thursday, January 17, 2013 at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home with Pastor Carol Shaffer officiating.  Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.

Condolences

The family of Cora Brackenbury has received the following condolences.

So very sorry for your loss; she was a sweet and spunky lady (bet she's playing golf in Heaven right about now!) and I know will be greatly missed.  God's grace and healing to you all.

I am so sorry for your loss Lesa and family.  I was out of town for the service and wasn't able to make it.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.  God Bless.

I remember Cora from holidays gatherings, where she always had a sweetly-contagious smile on her face.

She loved to play and laugh with grandkids and later great-grandkids, golfed and enjoyed her life to the fullest.

That is the Cora that I'll remember.

Deepest Sympathy to Cora's family and friends.

I have such fond memories of you and your family when we lived on 12th Avenue together as kids. Your Mom was always so sweet and kind to me.   All my sympathy to you Corinne, and all your family.

Jane Stevens Schilmoeller

I love you so much, Grandma. You were a blessing to my life.

To the family of Cora Brackenbury,

Remembering Cora & all the years we bowled together on the same Wednesday League at Rec Lanes,

also having lunch together quite a bit before bowling & our very lively discussions. She was quite a gal!!

Corinne and Lesa and families, You have our sympathy in the passing of your Mother. She was a very special lady...full of life.

We won't be able to attend service. I did talk to Pat Knapp..so she filled me in...of your Mother's later years.

Don't know if you even remember me...Beverly (Beckman) Stucky. Mary Lester Fabric Day's.
