Clarence Richard Engwall

Clarence Engwall, 87, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2020, surrounded by family.

Clarence was born February 9, 1933 in Bertha, MN.

Clarence graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While attending Gustavus, he met his wife of 62 years. They were married on July 24, 1954.

Clarence had many interests. He loved hunting and was a member of the National Board of Trustees of Ducks Unlimited. Clarence, you might say, was a Swedish Missionary working with the Norwegians. His missionary field was mainly with the Sons of Norway and the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, IA. Clarence was very active with Vesterheim, where he was on the Board of Trustees for 33 years. Clarence also enjoyed golf and he had 2 holes in one. One of Clarence’s hobbies was making Norwegian Rya rugs. He won the Minnesota State Fair Sweepstakes Award four years in a row.

Clarence worked for the Agriculture Division of Charles Pfizer for seven years. He also worked for the Recognition Division of Jostens for 36 years and he was a member of their Hall of Fame.

Clarence is survived by three children; Judy Wahl of Sioux Falls, SD Mark (Sally) Engwall of Huson, MT and Sue (Mike) Gerber of Tomahawk, WI, six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; parents Lambert and Elizabeth Engwall, brother Richard and sister Betty; and his granddaughter Kelly Engwall.

The memorial service for Clarence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Norman Wahl officiating with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum or Bethel Lutheran Church.

Condolences

The family of Clarence Richard Engwall has received the following condolences.

We lost 2 great guys on 3/16/20.

Fond memories of his Thurston Howell Halloween costume! He jumped right in on that!

Also, remember both of your parents’ kindness towards Andy while he was in Rochester during Lent on year, they invited him to their church’s services and that meant the world to Andy.

Clarence was always ready with a good story too!

I find comfort that they are all together now.
Much love to you all as you are now able to honor a life well lived.

Judy,

Sorry about your Dad. He sounds like an ambitious, well education man.

I just learned of the passing of Clancy as I was looking for the condolences for my mom who also just passed away this week with services at Macken.
Mark and family I’m so sorry to learn of your father’s passing as he was truly a class act AND a character we all adored. I know you are all so proud of all he accomplished in his life and he loved all of you very much as well. He’s dancing up a storm in heaven and busy catching up with those already there.
I am honored to have known him if even briefly as he was one in a billion and such a great man. Take peace knowing your Dad is in heaven and smiling ear to ear.
