Chu Thi Quach

Quach Thi Chu, was born in 1933 and raised in the city of Phan Thiet, Vietnam where she had helped her parents to raise her sister and three brothers.

In 1950, Chu was part of St. Paolo Catholic Diocese in Bien Hoa where she was baptized under St. Mary name as Maria Chu Thi Quach. In 1952, She married to her husband, Nguyen Phung Xuan, who was a Nurse Practitioner and held his own medical clinic. She also practiced Buddhism following her husband’s religion according to the Vietnamese culture and was known as Dong Hiep. Together with her husband, they owned a groceries store including a pharmacy and raised her twelve children till 1975 when Saigon fell into the communist regime. Her husband passed away in 1987, ending 45 years on medical practice. She held different jobs to make ends meet to raise the 12 children on her own during the challenged living condition under the communist ruling in Vietnam.

In 1995, she arrived in the States reunited with her son Edward. She had taken care of many children as daycare provider.  Together with her son, she had sponsored and brought most of the family here in the States. The family has grown and flourished in Rochester including 45 family members who are Entrepreneurs and hold many honorable professions in the Rochester vicinity and around the United States.

In 2005, Chu retired and remained a focal point which affixed the family together. Being a capable and compassionate person, she was a living example for many of her grand-children and great grand-children to emulate. She is a food connoisseur whose cooking was authentic and was a great cooking teacher to her daughters-in-law.

Chu had departed at 10:53PM on November 6, 2022 at home surrounded by her children, grand-children, great grand-children, and friends, but forever remained in the family memories and grateful hearts.
