Christine Landon

Christine “Chris” Mary Landon, 70, of Rochester, MN, passed away on February 27, 2020.

She was born to parents Honore and Fred Rolstad, on March 24, 1949, in Rochester. She graduated from Lourdes High School in 1967. She went on to study at Winona State University and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She retired from Olmsted Medical Center in 2014.

She loved her family above all, found solace and joy in her faith, and lived for spring and gardening. She cared with all of her heart for the lost and the vulnerable, was a lifelong advocate for mental health, and enjoyed knitting and cross-stitching. In 2012, Chris was honored with Volunteer of the Year for NAMI.

Chris is survived by her children and grandchildren: Brett (Jen, Riley and Logan), Shawn (Matthew), Aaron (Cecilia), Jaime (Brian, Hayden, Landon and Jace), and Kaylene (Paul, Honor and Nicholas).  She is survived by her siblings: Fred (Roxy), Brigh, Kate (Steve), and Jamie (Barb).

She is preceded in death by her daughters: Shannon, Brienna, and Brigh.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at Pax Christi Catholic Church on Saturday, March 7, at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Russell Scepaniak and Rev. The Hoang concelebrating. A visitation will be Friday, March 6, from 4 – 7 PM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Condolences

The family of Christine Landon has received the following condolences.

Chris was a living Angel the Lord so unselfishly shared with us. I am forever grateful and thankful to have known her, shared life with her and loved her. While my human heart breaks and the loss I feel is unmeasurable, her loving memories and angel like ways are in my heart and part of my soul forever.

I was blest to have worked alongside her as a nurse  as well as having her as a personal friend for so many years. She could calm the most anxious client, reassure them that all would be well and they believed her. She could play any instrument she made up her mind to learn. We both loved coffee and our early morning breakfasts. And we sang together in a music ministry. Family was most important to her just as speaking for the vulnerable people of the community.

I'd like to share the Angel blessing with you:

Angels all around us. Angels beside us. Angels within us. Angels are watching over you when times are good or sad or stressed. Her wings wrap gently around you, whispering you are loved and blessed now our eternal Angel.

To Brett, Shawn, Bugs, Jaime and Kaylene and families, I offer my sincere condolences. My life has been blest because of your mother. She is now an Angel watching over and blessing us all.

Dear Brigh, Jamie, Kate and Chris’s children,

I am so sorry to hear of Chris’s passing, she fought a great fight, showing me how to smile no matter what, how to be generous, courageous, strong and loving , funny and caring for so many people. She always reminded me of Honore, Carol’s best friend. Her smile was contagious. Sending you loving thoughts and memories.

What a gal! What a magnificent, wonderful gal! I'm so happy to have known her, if only for a few years. She was an inspiration to me, someone to show me how to live within the adversity that life can give us. Bless you, Chris. Love you, Chris. Be at peace.

A Tribute to Chris Landon: A Night Nurse Hero

A night nurse is a special kind of nurse who sleeps (if they sleep) when others are awake.

They work when others are tucked snugly in their beds.

They work when there is less staff and backup, so they learn to depend on each other.

They are heroes because they will wake sleeping bears at night to get their patients the help they need at night to be comfortable.

They comfort and console their patients when they are alone and afraid.

Chris was one of our night nurse heroes.

She lost her battle with cancer tonight.

As we mourn Chris, I find comfort in remembering her unique spirit.

She could care for the most agitated patient and calm them with her comforting words and compassion.

She mentored many young nurses to understand the core of nursing is all about the relationship with the patient. She emphasized, "We have not walked in their shoes."

She loved to talk and laugh. Her smile could light up a room that was gray.

She never left work on time as there was always one more story to share.

We lost a night nurse hero today and the world is little less bright and the night a little longer.

Her legacy of caring will live on in all of us nurses who had the privilege to know and work with Chris.

God bless, Chris, our night nurse hero. May she be at peace with those who have gone before her.

Sincerely,

Deb Perry

Dear Brigh and all family, Was so sorry to hear about Chris's passing. We have been so lucky to have our siblings for all the tough times we've had in our lives since our parents left too early. I'm so sorry you have now lost your sister. Kim and I will be out of state this week-end but know that we are sending thoughts and prayers to all of you. Jeannie and Kim

It’s so sad to learn that Christine has passed. She was a big part of my growing up as next door neighbors and family friends. She was a wonderful, positive, cheerful spirit. She had a lovely smile that I’ll never forget. Rest In Peace you good kind soul.

My prays go out to your family. Chris will be missed. What great Lady.

My heart hurts for all of Chris's family. She has been such a beacon of light throughout her battle with cancer. Her smile lit up the room. I know that her family was absolutely the most important part of her life. Her Facebook posts always brought a smile and an understanding of what Chris cared about. She will be missed by all of those who loved her.

I’m so sorry for your loss, but we know she is dancing with the angels ? Sending love and prayers.

So sorry for your loss, a truly happy person!

So sorry for the loss of a beautiful soul.  If we truly believe what our faith teaches then “she is in a better place”. Thoughts and prayers from us are with the family as you grieve!??

So sorry for your lost its difficult to lose the person that gave you life and nurtured your life and now her life physically has passed on but I think she would want you to know that emotionally and spirit ually she will always be with you. A mom holds a special place in our hearts.  Their life force really never leaves us but nurtured us in a different way that one can never fully understand but that's ok. Life holds many mysteries.

Chris was there for anyone who needed help. She was always spreading sunshine with that smile of hers. She was a wonderful person and will be missed. God has a new angel!

We are very sorry for your loss. Chris fought so hard and always kept her radiant smile in place. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.  Mark and Terri

God bless you Chris❣️

Brett, Jenny and family,

So sorry to hear about your loss. Prayers to your family.

Jan and Gary

Condolences to your entire family. She will be missed greatly.

Our hearts are broken to know that our dear friend Chris has passed away.  The angels in heaven are welcoming her with open arms and songs of joy.  During our Marriage Encounter years we laughed until we cried many weekends enjoying being with your Mom and Dad.  Chris was an inspiration to us for her faith, strength and ability to love and reach out to all those she met.  Her smile will forever be a cherished memory.  Her tight hugs will always be felt.  We are privileged to have known and been her friend for 40 plus years.  You all have our deepest sympathy.  Love,  Ken and Sandy Wagner

I'm so sorry that Chris has passed.   She was an amazing friend.  Glad she can now giggle with the angels!

I will miss her. I worked nites at OMC with Chris. She is a great nurse. She was so positive and out going. I will miss her, but God has a truely blessed person in heaven.

Know that I am there in heart and spirit?❤️?????? Sooooo......many memories of Chris, the Rolstad’s and Chris’s family. It makes me happy to think that Chris is with her mom and dad and her babies now. Look up every night in the sky, and you will see a big bright star “ Chris” looking down on you, keeping you safe and so very much loved!❤️
Brigh, thank you for letting me say good bye to Chris on the phone. It meant so very much?❤️ Linda
