Charles W. Speltz, 91, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at The Mayo Clinic, St. Marys campus.
Charles was born March 30, 1932 in Mt. Vernon Township, in Winona County to Raymond and Jeannette (Kohner) Speltz. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School and went on to proudly serve his country with the US Army in Fort Belvoir, VA. After, being honorably discharged from the military, Charles went to the University of Minnesota where he met Goldette Wold. Charles swept Goldie off her feet one night at a college dance and they were united in marriage in December 1958, in Minneapolis, MN. Charles spent most of his working career at IBM and retired with over 35 years of service. After his retirement from IBM, he went on to work at Domaille Engineering. Charles and Goldie enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and traveling to some of their favorite places: Austria, Germany, France and the Panama Canal. He enjoyed camping at the State and National parks, canoeing, skiing and loved family ice skating night. Charles was a member of the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and sang in the church choir for many years at Resurrection Catholic Church. Charles was always lending a helping hand to others and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had a great sense of humor, always joking and teasing but he also had a gentle heart. Charles had a calm strength and presence and always led by example.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Goldie; children, Lisa (Mike) Canfield of Rochester, MN, Paul Speltz of Stillwater, MN and Julie Morris of Rochester, MN; five grandchildren, Anthony (Tiffany) Canfield, Anna (Raaj) Ruparel, Thomas Speltz, Samuel Morris and Sarah Morris and four great-grandchildren, Jack, Will, Charlie and Aubree.
