Carol Theresa Zwart

Carol T. Zwart, age 68 of Zumbrota, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN.

Carol was born January 2, 1950 in Rochester, the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Spencer) Markus. She attended St. Francis Catholic School and graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester. She was united in marriage to Richard in 1969. Early in their marriage, Carol and Richard lived in Winona, Chicago, Stillwater, and Lakeville until ultimately moving to Zumbrota in 1991. She worked at the Bank of Zumbrota, mentoring many young women until she retired in 2016. Carol was very generous and giving as an active volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House, Dorothy Day House, Gage School, Assisi Heights and others. She was very strong in her faith, and became a Rochester Franciscan Cojourner in 2016. Carol’s positive outlook spread joy and love to all those she met. Carol took great pleasure and joy from pretty much everything imaginable: from round hay bales in a field to a scribbled drawing made by a loved one. She was passionate about fishing, music, traveling, Minnesota sports, her Irish heritage, and loving her entire family, especially her six grandchildren and three sons.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents and son, Adam.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Zwart; sons, Benjamin (Alison) Zwart of Lakeville, MN, and Zachary (Shauna) Zwart of Edina, MN; six grandchildren, Olivia (12), Julia (8), Clara (8), Adalynn (4), Jackson (2) and newest, Violet Carol Zwart (3 months); and siblings, William (Doreen) Markus of Rochester, MN, and Ann (John) Heydt of Alexandria, MN.

A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

The Zwart family would like to extend an invitation to their home for a reception after the burial.

My sincere condolences to all of the Zwart family at this time. I worked under Carol’s supervision at the Bank of Zumbrota and always loved her zest for life and positive attitude. Also having gone to high school with Adam, I know your struggles have been many and I hope you will find peace in the promise of His eternal home for us and the loved ones that now watch over you as they wait to welcome you with open arms one day.

Prayers to all of you,

The loss of a loved one is a very sad and heavy load to bare. May you find comfort at Acts 24:15 “ And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Please accept my deepest sympathy, and for more comforting information you may refer to jw.org.

My heart goes out to the Zwart family. Carol used to come in to my Coffeehouse in Pine Island. Sometimes for lunch; often after yoga. She was always a kind and gentle person with an easy smile. May memories of her guide you through this time.

I'm so sorry for your loss - I'm praying for peace for you and your family.

I am saddened to hear that Carol has passed away.  I met Carol while volunteering at Assisi Heights and also visited with her at a church retreat.  Even though I did not know her well her kind heart and giving spirit were easy to see.  She spoke of spending time with her precious grandchildren.  I pray that God will provide comfort at this difficult time.  She will be missed by many who loved her.

Jean and I knew Carol thru her sister Ann. Although we never saw her often, she always was warm, welcoming and upbeat whenever we did meet. Our thoughts are with the Zwart family in this time of trial.

Sending our heartfelt sympathies to uncle Dick and family.  Carol led her life with such Joy and love. Her kindness to me during my growing up years helped me to overcome and learn that anything can be accomplished and nothing is as bad as it seems. I will always keep her in a special place in my heart.

I will try to live life as she did with beauty, grace and love of all.

Her legacy will be that we carry that forward to our children, grandchildren and all who cross our paths of life.

To the Zwart family,

I am so very very sorry to hear of Carols passing. She contacted me early in October to let me know she was now at Seasons, and was in a happy place. I met Carol when I taught Yoga in Pine Island at the Sr. Center a few years ago (2015?). Her gentle and caring spirit was such an inspiration. She touched everyone that she came into contact with, and she had a very special place in my heart. Know that I'm sending you hugs and love during this difficult time, and that although her body is no longer with us, she is, in spirit, with us always.

Namaste,

Lynda Jo

I was very fortunate to get to know Carol by marrying her good friend from childhood.  Our visits were too infrequent over the years but always a delight and Carol was ever generous with her smile and loving heart.  The world has lost a very good person.

My sympathies to Carol's family.i had the pleasure of working with Carol for 6 years at the Bank of Zumbrota. Wonderful woman, great memories

So thankful to be able to talk with Zack about Carol’s life and hear of all the love and support that surrounded her in her last days as she battled her cancer with grace and determination. The Zwarts were our “neighbors-in-a-million “ here in Stillwater in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Three adorable little blond-haired boys in each of our families. How blessed we were to be able to share those early years of boyhood!  Carol was a wonderful mom-of-boys support for me, and thinking of her gentle manner, her kindness, and her spirit of adventure and sense of wonder just makes me smile. Bill and I send hugs and love to the family. Thinking of Carol being together with her beloved son Adam and also with our son Nick whom we lost in 2015 brings comfort and hope to us. May the peace of Christ fill your hearts in the days of mourning ahead.

My heart is broken.  I will forever miss my beautiful Irish cousin . Hugs and prayers for the family.

We are remembering you with special thoughts and deepest sympathy during this time of sorrow. Love and memories live on forever...

Zwart Family:

So many great memories growing up across the street from you.  Being scolded by Carol for eating dog food, to supporting us at so many soccer games.  It was a privlege being neighbors with you.  Our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the whole family in this difficult time.

Carol was a very active cojourner in our Franciscan community. Wherever Carol went she spread great joy. I always admired her beautiful spirit and connection with her loving family. I will forever cherish our warm relationship since having met Carol in 2016. May she rest in God's Eternal peace and joy.

Carol has been my dear friend and cheerleader since we were kids and I know her grace, generosity, and strength has been an inspiration to many.  We are better for her and will miss her.  I hold your beautiful caring family in my heart.

To the family of my beautiful friend, Carol.  Thank you for all the joy you gave her through the years.  My deepest sympathies to you all.
