Beverly A. Marek

The world got a little less green and a lot less beautiful when Beverly McGuire Marek age 83, a lifelong resident of Rochester, went home to paradise on Saturday, October 21st, in the home of her daughter Peg Constantine, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer.

She was born on October 6, 1934 to Pat and Gertrude McGuire, and though she was an only child, has 29 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as jewels in her heavenly crown.  She was married to the love of her life, Philip Marek for 54 years.  Beverly proudly wore her Irish heritage like a fine garment, was a devoted parent, adoring and patient grandparent and great-grandparent, loyal friend, fierce prayer warrior, and a devout Catholic.

Beverly is survived by six children.  Patrick (Maureen) of Winona, Peg Constantine (Charles) of Faribault, Mary Beth Dotson (Cory) of Owatonna, Kathleen Gleich (Peter), Robert (Kim) of Rochester, and Teresa McCabe (Tim) of Johnsburg, Illinois. She has 19 grandchildren, Sarah (Murl) Landman, Michael (Rachel), Matthew, James and Moira Marek, Kathryn (Chris) Childrey and Megan (Jon) Zetzman, Jennifer and David DeRose, Mary Gleich-Matthews (Brian), Elizabeth (Elliott) and Anne Gleich, Ryan, Corey, Conner, and Nathan Marek, Maggie, Molly, and Meghan Kube, and four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Zetzman, Mariah Childrey, and Philip Landman. Beverly is also survived by her friend of over 50 years, Diane Foley.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Philip, one granddaughter, Teresa Marie Gleich, and family friend Teresa (Tish) Scanlan.

Beverly was a Den Mother and Scouter of the Year for the Boy Scouts of America.  She also kept the home fires burning when her husband Philip guided hundreds of young men on their path to scouting.  She was a member and past president of the Rosary Society at St. Francis Church in Rochester, and was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Chapter Preceptor Alpha Zeta Sorority, and Widows Support Group.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 am on Thursday, October 26th at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester with the Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating.  Visitation will be 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, October 25th at longtime family friend’s Macken Funeral Home in the original building, with a remembrance sharing time at 7pm.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Condolences

The family of Beverly A. Marek has received the following condolences.

Bev was our next door neighbor on 12th Ave.  I think my sisters did some babysitting for her and Phil.  The last time I saw Bev was at my nieces wedding and she was proudly showing off her little green tattoo which she was very proud of.  She was a very unique person and I am sure she will be greatly missed.  I am sorry for your loss.

Teresa and family,

My heart goes out to you and your family during this very sad and difficult time.  Although I did not know your mom Teresa, she must have been amazing, for you are one of the most caring, kind and generous people that I have had the pleasure of knowing. I know how much you loved and cherished the time spent with your mom, I hope that you can find some peace and comfort in those wonderful memories.

Dear Marek Family,

Please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother.

The Canney Family

Dear Marek Family,  I am so sorry for your loss.  I loved seeing your Mom and Dad.  They would come to our house back in the 60's.  I remember hearing My Parents and your parents laughing and enjoying each other.  The memories are endless.  Now they are together once again.  God Bless you all!

So sorry to hear of the passing of my God Mother - Bev.  I was so lucky to have you in my life.  I will truly miss you.

Sincerely,

Janet Stelley Gunderson

Bev and Phil were great people.  Lots of fun and interesting stories every time we saw them.

My deepest sympathy to you, Kathleen, and your family as well. I have to work, but will be with you in spirit. Hugs!

Bev Marek was an amazing strong loving woman who, along with Phil, raised an awesome family whom I am blessed to have known. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to experience and learn from her love and example. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Marek family, your mother was one of a kind!  I enjoyed seeing her out and about in Rochester, always greeting me and my family with a big smile and updates of her family.  She was so fun to be around. May fond memories help you through this difficult time.
