Betty Rian Klauda

Forever in our hearts and greatly missed, Betty went to be with our heavenly father on Feb 10, 2018 at Madonna Towers.

The Memorial Mass for Betty Rian Klauda will be at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 15th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Tom Loomis officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass. Betty donated her body to the Mayo Clinic Anatomical Bequest Program. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Betty Ann Dunsmore was born June 21, 1928 in St. Paul, MN to Henry and Margaret (Dingels) Dunsmore.

She was married on May 28, 1949 to Vincent James (Jim) Rian at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN.

On December 5, 1958, they moved to Rochester, MN where Jim opened the Rochester branch of the CPA firm Broeker & Hendrickson (RSM McGladrey).

Betty was an active member of St Pius X Catholic Church and later Holy Spirit Church in Rochester. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at St. Pius School, Rochester Methodist Hospital (where she earned her 1,000 hour pin), and Banner Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, AZ where they wintered for many years.

Jim Rian, her husband of 46 years, passed away on November 15, 1995. Betty married Frank Klauda on January 1, 1999.

Throughout Betty’s life, her interactions with her loving family and countless friends were laced with her sweet and giving personality. It extended easily into her volunteer life where her wonderful sense of warmth radiated through those she helped in big and small ways.

She is survived by her children, Cherie (Ed) Daum, Mary (Tony) Crea, Jolene (Dan) Kennedy, Nancy (Tim) Kelley, Patti (Bill Vitali) Rian, Tom (Mary Jo) Rian, and Steve Rian; grandchildren, Jason (Liz) Michelizzi, Jared Michelizzi, Jim Crea, Matt (Melissa) Crea, Michelle (Brian) Tapley, Jessica Kennedy, Chelsea (Mason) Schullo, Kaitlin Kennedy, Robbie (Kimmy) Kelley, Courtney Kelley, and Katie Rian; and great-grandchildren, Mikaela, Ellie and Zara.

Betty is also survived by her husband, Frank Klauda; his children, Ann Klauda, Mary Klauda, Chris (Gerard Chelak) Klauda, Paul (Rita) Klauda, Katie (Terry) Lewis, Mike (Elizabeth) Klauda, and Tom (Sonja) Klauda; his grandchildren, Kate, Joe and Anna Chelak, Kristen (David Taintor), Melissa and Nick Klauda, Justin (Mariane) Lewis, Jeremy (Haleh) Lewis, Emili and Elli Klauda, Erica and Gavin Klauda; and great-grandchildren, Sloane and Holden.

Memorials are suggested to The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

Macken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

What a WONDERFUL life to be celebrated!  I am so pleased to have met her.  Her legacy and family is now a huge part of MY extended family.  I see how she influenced her daughter, Mary, then passed down this loving spirit to her granddaughter, Michele, who is now my daughter-in-law.  Thank you Betty.  You've been a life to admire.

"Just walk fearlessly into the house of mourning, for grief is just love squaring up to its oldest enemy.  And after all these mortal, human years, love is up to the challenge."
