Betty Jane Horner

Betty Jane Horner, age 84 of Rochester passed away on February 1, 2011 at Madonna Towers Nursing Care. 

Betty Jane Stafford was born on July 3, 1926 in Sorum, South Dakota to Frank and Ellen Stafford. Betty lived in Sorum, SD until 1938, when her family moved to Tracy, MN. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1944. On December 31, 1945, she married Harold Horner in Tracy, MN.  In 1956, they moved to Lanesboro, MN, where they owned and operated a dry-cleaning establishment, Harold’s Cleaners. In 1971, the couple moved to Rochester, where Betty worked as the buyer and manager for the Children’s Department of Massey’s Department Store. She later worked in the Medical Library at Mayo Clinic until her retirement. She was well known for her sense of humor, and enjoyed her Saturday morning coffee-time with friends.

She is survived by her children: Betty (Jerry) Lobland of Rochester, Bruce (Laurinda) Horner of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Rich (Pam) Horner of Eyota, seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.  She is preceded by her husband Harold, three brothers, and two sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00AM at Church of The Savior (971 16th Street SE Rochester) with Pastor Shirley Heeg officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
