Arthur Dunne

On Saturday, August 27, 2022, Arthur (Art) Joseph Dunne, loving husband and father of three daughters, passed away at the age of 87 in Pine Island, MN after a brief illness with cancer.

Art was born on January 4, 1935 in Perth Amboy, NJ to James and Mary (McNally) Dunne.  He grew up on Pershing Ave. in Carteret, NJ where he lived with his parents, his siblings, his two Irish grandmothers, his Aunt Kitty, and his beloved dog Butch.  He graduated from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, NJ.  He started his career in industrial finance in New York City and then moved to St. Paul, MN in 1965 where he proudly raised three beautiful daughters.  He was very involved in St. Columba Catholic Church as a trustee, Eucharistic minister, and lector.  In 1988, Art started his second career as the Parish Administrator at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove, MN.   After Art retired, he moved to Pine Island, MN.  While in Pine Island he continued serving in the Catholic Church.  His delight was in stewardship.  He led bible studies and communion services at Pine Haven Nursing Home for 17 years.  Art loved all things Irish, playing the piano, singing Irish songs, playing the game Mexican Train, and reading anything he could get his hands on.  He was known for his quick wit and never-ending sense of humor.  He lived his remaining years in Rochester, MN where he served in the choir Pax Christi Catholic Church and then moved and attended St. Pius X Catholic Church.  He was a friend of Bill W. for 52 years.

Art will be sorely missed by many friends and family: his wife of 21 years Elsie (Naas); daughters, Colleen Dunne, Cynthia McCoy (Kenny), Bridget Mannetter (Prentice); sister, Mary Faherty; several nieces and nephews; step-children, Steven Berger (Patricia), and Karen Lenn (Greg).  He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James (Bud) Dunne.

Art had a special love for his grandchildren Michaela and Mariah McCoy, Skyler and Kaeli Mannetter, and step-grandchildren Nate Berger (Traci), Terese Berger, Sarah Larson (Ben) and great grandson Elliot Berger. He loved being their Papa.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, MN at 11:00 a.m. with Father Scepaniak officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Memorial Mass at the church. A private family burial will take place in Pine Island, MN at the Pine Island Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Heifer International.  Heifer.org

Condolences

The family of Arthur Dunne has received the following condolences.

Art was a great friend. I loved seeing him at church choir. He was a great singer.  I will miss him very much.

We are very sorry about Art. he was a great choir member. We will miss him very much.

Mr. Dunne was a good friend to my late father, Tom Connolly, in Carteret, NJ.  They volunteered together at St. Joseph Parish there in the Legion of Mary and the Boy Scout troop.  I recall their hosting coffee and donuts after Sunday Mass.  In later years my father was thrilled when Mr. Dunne took the time on his trips to NJ to visit our family.  My mother, Marianne Connolly, and I have many fond memories of Mr. Dunne and wish to extend our sympathy.  He was a man of strong faith who loved his family.  May the memory of happier days help you at this difficult time.

Heaven gained another angel! Art will never be forgotten. He had a big heart and shared his faith and love of God with so many. Prayers and hugs to Elsie and his daughters. I will miss ss him so very much but know he is being welcomed into Heaven!!
