Arthur A. Marozas

Arthur A. Marozas, age 94, of Rochester, MN died Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Madonna Towers in Rochester.

Arthur was born November 30, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Stanley and Catherine (Wsol) Marozas.

Arthur volunteered at age 18 for the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and served from 1943 until 1945 in the Eighth Air Force, 303rd Bombardment Group, as a B-17 tail-gunner. He attended the University of Illinois from 1946 – 1949 where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Arthur continued his education by taking several post-graduate courses at the University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin, and the University of Cincinnati. He worked for Standard Oil Company of Indiana as a Process Engineer and Industrial Hygienist from July 1949 until retiring in July 1984.

Arthur married Lola Hill in 1953 and lived in Joliet, Illinois, where they raised six children. He later married Joanne Orr Marozas in 1987, who tragically passed away from breast cancer. He then married Barbara Zerbian Marozas in 1998, living happily for 15 years in Tinley Park, Illinois. After losing his beloved wife, Barbara, in 2012, Arthur moved to Rochester, MN where he lived the remainder of his life.

Arthur will be forever loved and missed by his six children, Bryan (Diana) Marozas, Claire Kagaya, Dianne (Patrick) Barton, Jeanne (Fred) Sirota, Grant (Elizabeth) Marozas, and John (Diana) Marozas; 16 grandchildren, Bryan Marozas, Joseph Marozas, Naomi Kagaya, Mieko Kagaya, Sachi Kagaya, Spencer Barton, Kathryn Barton, Louis Sirota, Jennie Sirota, Paula Johnson, Ramona Marozas, Miguel Marozas, Isabel Marozas, Ian Marozas, Brendan Marozas, and Anja Marozas; five great-grandchildren, Cora Jane Johnson, Celeste Johnson, Indigo Marozas, Kiara Marozas, and Asuka Yang; and sister, Laverne Evans of Cookeville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Catherine; siblings, Florence Kiwior and Robert Marozas; and wives, Joanne Orr and Barbara Zerbian.

Arthur was an avid storyteller, his favorite tale being the story of his B-17, Miss Lace, being shot down by enemy forces on March 18, 1945. Luckily, the crew landed safely on a small airstrip outside of Warsaw, Poland. The crew arrived back at Molesworth, England three weeks later via Russia, Iran, Egypt, Italy, and France. Arthur enjoyed baking his family his famous Swedish Limpa bread, that took the first-place blue ribbon award in the Casper, Wyoming State fair. He traveled extensively across the U.S. to visit family and friends. Arthur was a devoted husband and loving father and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing his kind and powerful spirit.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private memorial will be held at Macken Funeral Home followed by a burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. A Memorial Mass and celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
