Archie R. Langdon

Archie R. Langdon, 81, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home following a lengthy illness.

Archie was born on June 2, 1944, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and graduated from Lourdes High School in 1963. In 1961, he met the love of his life, Caroline, and they were married on December 6, 1965, sharing 60 years of marriage together.

Archie proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, including service during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Princeton. Following his military service, he dedicated 28 years to the Rochester Police Department, protecting and serving his community with honor and commitment.

After retirement, Archie continued to serve quietly, offering his time and help to family, friends, and the Amish community.  He never sought recognition for his service, instead choosing a life of humble service that touched and changed many lives.

Archie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and weightlifting, and above all, he loved his family deeply.

He is survived by his loving wife, Caroline Langdon; his children, Tammy Drees (Steve), Christina Kent (Rick), and Archie Langdon (Tiffanie); 12 grandchildren, Dominic Drees (Leah), Zachariah Drees, Stephanie Sherer (Zac), Nathan Kent, Ashley Kent, Hayden Langdon, Hutton Langdon, Derek Stolarzyk (Lindy), Jenae Stolarzyk, Danny Stolarzyk, Brett Stolarzyk and Ashland Stager; 5 great-grandchildren, Anastasia, Ryker, Davie, Jentry and Sullie; his siblings, Thomas Langdon (Kathy) and Sharon Lynch; and Tully, his beloved dog.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

A private family funeral will be held at Macken Funeral Home. In lieu of any gifts, memorials may be directed to The American Heart Association or for Parkinson’s Research.

Archie will be remembered for his humble service, strong faith, and the enduring love he had for his family.

Condolences

The family of Archie R. Langdon has received the following condolences.

Tammy and family, I am very sorry to read of Archie’s passing. While at St. Mary’s in recent months, I followed your mom through security. There was an issue of sorts…. I felt so badly for her trouble but concluded Dad was not going well. I prayed for her and your family as I continued on my way.  It didn’t seem the time to reconnect. I have fond memories of your sweet parents… the love was evident and inspiring. May you all find peace in knowing he lived his life well, and was a man worthy of honor and admiration . May God bless you all and bring you comfort now and in the days and weeks to come.

I enjoyed Archie as a fellow spin biker at 125 as together we worked out, trying to beat Parkinson’s.  While biking I learned a lot about weight lifting as Archie shared his experiences. I will miss him.

We are deeply sorry for your loss. May the memory of his long and meaningful life bring you comfort, and may the love he gave continue to live on in your hearts. Wishing you peace and strength during this difficult time.

I’ve not had much contact with Archie over the years but by his reputation for service to his country, community and family he was what he always was - a good and decent man. In the seven+ decades I’ve known him and known of him (we were neighbors on 11 th Ave SE as kids and classmates at St Francis and Lourdes) I’ve heard nothing but good - a good guy, friendly and helpful. My condolences to his family.

I went to school with Archie and he was a very quiet, gracious person. Rest in peace and I thank you for your years of service to your country and your community.

Caroline, Tammy, Chrissy and Archie, my heart is breaking for your loss.  I’m so glad that I got to visit with you both (Archie and Caroline) during dad’s funeral in Aug.  I have so many wonderful memories with Archie.  He was a great friend to my dad (Fred Crossfield).  It was an honor to know your family and to have babysat for the girls.
Sending you all love and comfort as you navigate this loss.

I'm so sorry to hear that Archie is gone.  I always saw Archie as father figure, mentor and friend.  When I look back I see Archie as a very strong and tough person.  Not to mean but to teach us to be strong and to live with purpose.

I remember him as hard working and humble person.  After he retired he helped me with my newspaper routes.  I remember 1 day it was ten below zero and thirty mile an hour wins, and we were running newspapers up to doors. That's not something I would have expected by someone who is so honored and decorated by our community and nation.

When he was 70 I helped with his snow a few times.  He didn't just sit and tell me how he wanted it done, he grabbed a shovel and help me clear thick heavy snow.  He always treated me like a friend, and that's what great leaders.

I know these are the same life lessons that he taught many people and why he was so looked up to by so many.

Thank you Archie for blessing our lives with your strength and grace.

I have been blessed to know you and your whole family!

Very sorry to hear of Archie's passing. You couldn't find a better man. Willing to help with anything a person needed, all you had to do was ask Archie. Great workout partner, and Archie was one strong man. I will miss him.

Everyday I got to spend w grandpa was a treat for me. Pancakes at Perkins, the occasional fishing day, playin w the dogs in his back yard; his memory will always be a treasure of mine. Love you, gramps!

I will remember all the times with Archie working out at the Northgate health club. Archie was a great guy and he was truly dedicated at whatever he did.

Rest in peace my old friend.

My condolences to Carol and family. Archie was a proud veteran, law enforcement officer and family man. I enjoyed working with him when he trained for his powerlifting competitions and training with him for mine. May he Rest In Peace!
