Ania M. Swiergul-Tofil
Ania Maria Swiergul-Tofil, age 61, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 25, 2026
She was born in Warsaw, Poland, where she spent her early life and came of age during a time of great social and political change. As a young woman, Ania was part of the Solidarity movement protests, standing alongside others who sought freedom, dignity, and a better future for their country. These experiences helped shape her strong sense of justice, empathy, and resilience—qualities she carried with her throughout her life.
Ania was a devoted wife and mother whose life centered around her family and close friends. One of her greatest goals was to create a home that was warm, welcoming, and accepting of everyone and she succeeded. She loved to cook and crochet, often sharing her creations with others, and she had a natural gift for making friends wherever she went. She will be remembered for her strength, sharp wit, warmth, and the deep love she had for those closest to her. Her presence and care touched everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy Tofil, and her children, Filip Swiergul, Aniela Tofil, Adam Tofil, and Julianna Tofil. She is also survived by her nephew, Bartłomiej Gabrysiak. She was preceded in death by her sister, Małgorzata Świergul-Gabrysiak, and her parents, Adam Świergul and Anna Świergul.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 31, at 12:00 PM, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service, followed by a lunch at Oak Hills Wesleyan Church, located at 410 28th Street SW in Rochester, MN. An additional visitation will take place on Friday, January 30, from 4:00PM to 7:00 PM, also at Oak Hills Wesleyan Church. For those unable to attend in person, the funeral service will be live streamed at https://discoveroakhills.com

You taught me the importance of being a mom and that advocate for your child. I thank you often quietly. I am blessed to have Filip in my life and I will continue to care and laugh with him. Peace and love to you Tim and kids my sympathies to you all.
Tim and family—I was truly saddened to hear of Ania’s passing. I know that she loved and was deeply loved by you and your children. I know that you will always cherish Ania’s memory and wish you all peace and comfort.
Sorry for your loss
Filip, I'm so sorry to hear of your dear mom's passing. I remember meeting you and your family, at one of the Kukla/Stach parties, and particularly recollected what a happy group you all were. The happy memories of your mom will forever stay in your heart. Your cousin, Terry Stach
I have only met Ania about five times in person but I was so impressed by her grit and energy. She exuded love for family, friends, and Poland. A real woman. Her homemade pierogis made on a Coleman stove at a yearly family party were devoured the second Ania slid them off the pan. On behalf of the extended Michigan family I would like to send a message of love, prayers, and peace from our Lord Jesus to all in Minnesota. Love and blessings from cousin Sylvia
Sending heartfelt wishes from Michigan.
Sorry for your loss Filip and also for your family.Stay strong

Dear Tim and family Bert and I are so sorry for your loss. We will keep you in our prayers 🙏 ❤️. She was a dear friend 🧡.
Heart felt condolences to Tim Tofil and his family on the death of his wife, Ania, and mother of his children. I am glad I got to meet her years ago when I traveled to Rochester Minnesota. My goodness, she died so young. Be assured of my prayers for her, you and her entire family. You still have a friend in Pennsylvania. Sincerely, Jim
I’m so sorry for your loss. Ania had a way of making people laugh even on her hardest days, and that says everything about who she was. She told things exactly how she saw them, loved her tea with lemon and too much sugar, and brought light into the lives around her. She will be deeply missed, and I’m holding you and your family in my thoughts.
Hi Tim,
My heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this incredibly difficult time. May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.

Ania was like a 2nd mom to me, treating me like one of her kids while I helped care for Philip and his siblings like they were my own family. Ania had such a big heart!! She was so selfless, putting everyone else before herself! She was strong willed, witty and had a bold personality but loved so hard and was loyal! Ania loved being Polish and sharing her knowledge, pictures or recipes. We loved it when she would make her homemade pierogies or simply an open faced ham, butter and cucumber sandwiches on "good bread". It always tasted better when Ania made it for us! I will miss her smile, laugh and life talks. She taught me to be independent and not to take crap from anyone. There's so many things that she did or said that have impacted me on the daily. She will forever be in my heart and on my mind as one of the most memorable people in my life!! Thank you God for putting Ania in my life and may you hold her in the palm of your hands with lots of flowers! Tim, Philip, Aniela, Adam and Julia, you are family and my heart weeps with you. Wish I could be there with you!! Xoxo
