Anita Ann Sullivan

Anita Ann (Stewart) Sullivan, 85 of Rochester passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Anita was born to Harold W. and Ruth V. Stewart on September 8, 1932 in Rochester, MN. She was raised in Rochester where she attended Edison Elementary, Central Junior High and graduated from Rochester High School in 1950. She then attended Rochester Junior College before accepting employment with Mayo Clinic.

She married the love of her life, James G. Sullivan on October 16, 1954 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester.

Anita enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved traveling and spending summer times on Lake Pepin at their summer home. She had a great passion for playing bridge with her friends or anyone that would pick up a hand.

Anita is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Alicia of Encinitas, CA, Michael of Lake City, MN and Patrick of Rochester; her grandchildren, Graham Durst of Encinitas, CA, Stewart (Erin) Durst of San Francisco, CA, Ryan (Sarah) Sullivan of Rochester, Casey (Brooke) Sullivan of Oronoco, MN and Karly Sullivan of Rochester; her great-granddaughters, Dakota Frances Durst of San Francisco, CA and Aurora Rose Sullivan of Oronoco, MN. She is also survived by her two brothers, Chub (Janet) Stewart and Harold Stewart, both of Rochester.

Anita would prefer memorials for the children of the Ronald McDonald House.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, February 16 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 15 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Mass at the funeral home on Friday. Condolences

The family of Anita Ann Sullivan has received the following condolences.

Jim and family we are thinking of you and yours during this hard time.

Dear Mr. Sullivan, Alicia, Mike & Patrick,

Where does one begin to say how sorry I am to hear Mrs. Sullivan has moved onto a different life path.  My memories of her are of her laughter, her perfect lipstick, her comfort when my son passed away (I still have the butterfly she sent me - a symbol of hope and resurrection), her little yorkies "MOMMA GIVIN' YOU TREATIES?!?!?!?" with her laughing, the food she cooked, her hospitality whenever I visited Lake City or Rochester, her interest in my son's life... and just her. She always had time for me.

Mr. Sullivan - I wish I could be there to give you a hug in person; tears fall, my heart hurts for you. My hope is that your lifelong marriage, trips you took together, times at the lake will help ease the sorrow and loss.

Alicia, Mike & Patrick - your mom.  Each of you carry the best parts of her in your personalities, laughter, love of life. As you walk this new path without her, I believe she is still with you - sitting on your shoulder and laughing.  I'm so incredibly sorry.

May the sight of butterflies and cardinals remind you she is still with you... just over the horizon, laughing and at peace.

Godspeed, Mrs. S.

Julie

Our condolences to Jim and his family. Sorry for your loss.

Dear Jim and family,

What great neighbors you were at “The Lake”.  We have many fond memories and will always treasure them.  Anita will always be remembered for her big smile, great sense of humor, caring heart and of course her lipstick.  What a classy lady!  You will be missed sweet Anita? Rest In Peace.

Our Love,

Mary Jo & Bob

Jim and kids I am so sorry to learn of Anita's leaving us.  To be so far away and not being able to share your grief.  I have known Anita for over 50 years and playing bridge with her just as long.  Never could talk her into playing duplicate.  Loved her ability to say exactly what was on her mind!

Anita made the best sloppy joes which she treated us with frequently.  Even shared her recipe with us.  We will miss her and think of her always with a smile.  Rest in peace my friend.

An Angel that walked this Earth among us. My heart goes out to entire Sullivan Family, especially Jim, Alicia, Mike, & Pat.  I’ll always treasure my memories, as well as the photographs of the many times together with Mom & Rod…Times at the Point in Lake City…and the bridge games.  I'll bet there is a large Bridge game going one in Heaven. My mom, Bonnie  has one of her favorite players with her again. Hi to mom Anita:)  Love Brenda

Jim and Family,

What a special lady!   All of the neighbors on Wilshire Drive knew that the Sullivan door was always open, and once inside, you would be greeted with a hug, a smile, and lots of laughter.  Anita will be missed, but we always remember her special laugh and huge heart.  Our love, thoughts, and prayers to your family.

Our sympathy to Jim and all the family. I will always remember her with a great smile. I was lucky enough to grow up across the street from Jim’s parents. Lovely family?

We were so sad to hear about the passing of Anita. She was one of those warm caring people you couldn't help but love.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Donna & Dallas

Jim,

I was so sorry to hear of Anita's passing.  You both were very special to mom and dad and I have heard many stories through the years of "Jim and Anita".  After mom passed, you were both so good to Dad.  I pray that you find peace and comfort in your memories.  Blessings to you and your family.

Dearest Jim, Alicia, Mike and Pat,

I'm so sorry to hear of Anita's passing.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your families. I have so many good memories made with Anita and all of you.  Anita never missed our families bridal showers, baby showers and weddings.  It meant so much to Dick, Larry, Cathy, and Jodi when "Neet" came to our family functions after our Mom and one of her closest friends passed away.  She truly comforted us.  May God bless you all and help you navigate this sad time.  We loved you Anita, give Mom and Dad our love...Susie.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim and  all of Anita's family at this difficult time.

Willy and Linda McConnell

Our Hearts are with the Sullivan family in this time of loss. We loved Anita very much and will miss her dearly.

My deepest condolences to Jim and the family at the loss of Anita.

It was such a joy to have know her even for a brief time.

The bridge players in heaven will be happy to have her joining them and we all will have another angel watching over us.
