Allene F. Henke

Allene Henke, age 92, of Eyota died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at St. Marys Hospital of an aortic aneurysm following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Rochester Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Nathaniel R. Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Pine Island Cemetery.

Allene Heins was born on July 7, 1925 at her grandparents’ home in Pine Island to Leon and Mary Heins. She attended country school in Pine Island and moved with her family to Rochester as a girl. The family lived on a farm north of Rochester at what is now Essex Park. She married John Henke on October 27, 1945. They later divorced.

Allene worked as a school cook at Trinity Lutheran School in Rochester for many years, as well as Dover-Eyota Schools. She was an avid bowler, a hobby which she continued well into her advanced years. She traveled extensively, including trips to Africa, Ireland and Hawaii. She also enjoyed taking bus trips to area casinos. She was a long-term member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Allene is survived by two children, David (Kathy) Henke of Rochester and William Henke of Eyota; sister, Corinne Liebenow of Plainview; sisters-in-law, Marian Heins of Rochester and Eleanor Baumbach of Minneapolis; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Orville, Howard, Clayton, and Charlene Heins.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church.

We were saddened to learn of your Mothers passing. Please accept our sincere sympathy. We had many good times together at my folks farm . You may remember when we first had a black & white tv & you would come out to the farm on Friday or Sat. night & we would all watch Laurel & Hardy movies. Our thoughts & prayers are with you at this difficult time. We will se you all on Monday.

So sorry for your loss! I have many fond memories from the Lutheran School of Mrs Henke. She was a very fun person to be around! Since she was a good friend of my Mom’s I got to know her very well!
