Alice A. Mulvihill

Alice Anne (Haggerty) Mulvihill (88) passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at St. Marys Hospital following an unexpected illness, surrounded by family.

She was born in Rochester, Minnesota to Allen and Alice (Hall) Haggerty on April 14, 1929. She graduated from Lourdes High School and St. Marys LPN School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at the Mayo Clinic and Assisi Heights Infirmary as one of the nurses called in to care for sisters. She cared for a polio patient on the “iron lung” machine, on a respirator and on a rocking bed before the vaccine came about.

On September 29, 1951, she married Carl J. Mulvihill at St. Francis Church and celebrated 66 years of marriage together! She was a charter member there and later as well at St. Pius Church, both of Rochester. Together they had four children.

She enjoyed many activities including singing, church service groups, camping, golf, cards, dancing and music of all types. The annual family summer vacation was to Leech Lake fishing with relatives. They wintered in Arizona for 23 years.

Alice is survived by her husband, Carl; brother, Denis (Cathy) Haggerty; sons, Joseph (Pam) Mulvihill of Andover, MN, Daniel (Mary) Mulvihill of Rochester, MN, Douglas Mulvihill of Dallas, TX; daughter, Anne (Doug) Fingerson of Rochester, MN; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and in-laws, Sharon (Larry) Anderson and Peg Haggerty. She was one of eight children and preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard, Larry, Joseph and David; and sisters, Phyllis Riley and Helen Sell.

A Funeral Mass for Alice will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, MN with Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday. Burial at Calvary Cemetery will follow lunch.

Memorials are preferred to St Pius Parish or Lourdes Foundation.

Condolences

The family of Alice A. Mulvihill has received the following condolences.

Dan, our deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother.  God bless you and your family.

Dan and Mary...Thoughts and prayers for you.  It is so very hard to say goodbye to a parent....John and I know all so well. Please know that we are thinking of you.

Although our paths didn't often intersect, we'll always remember fondly Allie's gentle manner, kind words and radiant smile.  Those who we have loved never really leave us.  They live on forever in our hearts and cast their radiant light on our every shadow. - Sylvana Rossetti  In thoughts, prayers and sympathy to Carl and family.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to family and friends. May all of your good memories be greater than your sadness during this difficult time. (Isaiah 25:8)

I will miss Allie here at Madonna Towers.  Where there was Allie, so too was Carl.  They would exercise together, walk together and have dinner together.  Allie made such a difference in daily living with the people she came in contact with.  Her life centered around her family, her deep faith, and her love for Carl.

So saddened with the loss of Aunt Allie.  Our hearts are hurting and we will miss her.  She is now in the company of our wonderful Haggerty family that has gone before her and now the "fun sisters" are reunited once again.  Thoughts and prayers to you all.
