Agnes Dahl Bailey

Agnes Dahl Bailey died peacefully on June 21st, 2019, after battling cancer. She was 89 years old, about 2 weeks short of her 90th birthday.

Dahl was born on July 6, 1929 in Mantorville, Minnesota to William and Mary Decker. She was longtime resident of Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1947. During high school, she was President of the Roller Skating Club and also loved attending dances with friends. Following graduation from high school, she was employed by the Mayo Clinic for 5 years, as a Medical Secretary. Dahl then took a position with the City of Rochester where she worked for the next 5 years supporting the building, electrical, heating, and plumbing inspectors. Her career then shifted to Kellogg Junior High School where she worked 29 years as a para professional. During that time she held numerous positions including working in the computer lab, and providing support for teachers. She retired from her position at Kellogg in 1989.

In 1955, she married Harold Lloyd Bailey. They had three children, Michael Bailey (Kathy), Judy Holmberg (Bill), and Cindy Schwartz (Dan). Dahl and Harold enjoyed attending the sports and activities that their children participated for many years. Dahl learned to play golf once her three children were grown. She and Harold loved to play golf together. Dahl was a very passionate golfer and was a long time member of the Soldiers Field, Eastwood, and Northern Hills women’s golf leagues. For many years she enjoyed countless wonderful times on and off the course with her golfing buddies. During her golfing years, she was successful in winning the Club Championships at Eastwood and Northern Hills. Dahl also competed successfully for many years in the Minnesota State Senior Women’s Golf Championships. One of her golfing highlights was playing at Pebble Beach Golf Links, making two birdies on the front nine while playing with her son.

She was also very passionate about her gardening. Each spring, she took great pride in providing superb care for her flowers around her home. For many years, she planted and nurtured the flower beds at the entrance to the Soldiers Field Golf Course clubhouse, bringing beauty and joy to many of her fellow golfers.

In addition to her 3 children Dahl had 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with all of them whenever possible.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; as well 4 brothers: Lester Decker, Fred Decker, Darrell Decker, and Paul Decker; and 1 sister, Fran Cochran.

The family would like to give special thanks to all the wonderful neighbors, friends and hospice care givers for your support.  It really made a difference.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to The First Tee or Mayo Hospice in memory of Dahl.

Please join the family for Dahl’s memorial service and a Celebration of Life Monday, July 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private family interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Condolences

The family of Agnes Dahl Bailey has received the following condolences.

Judy, it seems my memory is not too good at times! Today after writing my note I see I had already did one!  I guess it is quite normal at my age, any way I guess you were on my mind again today. Norma

Sorry for your loss Judy.  I would see your mom at Soldiers Field golf course watering the plants and we would visit about our daughters!      Norma and Bud Holst

Judy and family, so sorry for the loss of your mother. Remember seeing her at Soldiers Field Golf course taking care of the flowers, if not golfing!
