Richard J. “Dick” Kerrigan

The Kerrigan Family announces with sadness the death of Mr. Richard “Dick” John Kerrigan. Husband, father, grandfather, fisherman, golfer, and perennial Twins fan, he passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.  He was 69 years old.

Mr. Kerrigan was born on May 5, 1940, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Bernard and Maleta Kerrigan.  He was raised across the Mississippi River in Hokah, Minnesota.  He was the youngest of seven children and attended St. Peter’s Catholic School for elementary and high school.  After graduating from St. Peters, he attended DeVry Institute in Chicago and graduated with a degree in Radio Electronics. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served for four years, including 2 years in Vietnam.  He returned to Minnesota and attended Winona State University on the GI Bill. He married Jeaneal “Jean” Roesner in Minneapolis on November 21, 1970.  The family moved to Rochester in 1973, where they have resided ever since.  His life-career was in sales and investments, spending a total of 32 years working for Dearborn Chemical, Dain Bosworth (now RBC Dain Rauscher) and Morgan Stanley. He was active in The Exchange Club of Rochester, the Knights of Columbus, and served multiple leadership roles at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Lourdes High School. Mr. Kerrigan is survived by his wife, Jean, and his children Ryan (Erin) Kerrigan of Newport Beach, CA, Leah (Kevin) Prehn of San Diego, CA and Marea (Ryan) Hunter of Truckee, CA, four grandchildren, sisters: Mary (Norm) Horning and Jean (George) Kihm, and 3 brothers: William (Alys), James (MaryLee) and Thomas Kerrigan and a sister-in-law: Mary Kerrigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, an elder brother Robert, and an infant brother, Daniel.

His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester, on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 10:00AM with Msgr. Rev. Gerald A. Mahon Officiating. Following the service, burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at Macken Funeral Home and one-half hour prior to services at church. Richard was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging or Saint Peter’s Catholic School in Hokah, MN.
