Mildred Marie Northway

Mildred “Millie” Marie Northway passed away on November 11, 2009 at her home, at the age of 85. Mildred Marie Bakken was born to Hannah  (Bushman) and Oscar Bakken on March 13, 1924 in High Forrest Township. She spent her years growing up around the towns of LeRoy, Racine, and Stewartville, Minnesota. In September of 1944 she married Walter Comstock and the couple later divorced.  In June of 1950 she married Dayton Himle.  He passed away in July of 1972. On May 18th 1973 Mildred married Gene Northway in Rochester. He passed away in February of 2007.

Mildred worked at the J.C. Penny Co. for 26 years. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, volunteering, cooking, baking, and especially helping those in need. She is survived by: A daughter: Julie (Loyd) Clement of Byron, a son-in-law: David Carson of Rochester, five grandchildren: Mike and Sandy Stettler of Rochester; Elizabeth and Scott Umbaugh of Preston; Jessica Stettler and Rick Boysen of Rochester; Joshua Clement of Lyle, MN; Adam and Angie Clement of Hayfield, MN; Nine great-grandchildren.  A sister: Shirley Bakken of Stewartville and a brother: Russell Bakken of Spring Valley. She is preceeded in death by one daughter, four sisters, a brother, and her parents.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, November 16, 2009 at 11:00AM at Christ Lutheran Church of Rochester. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at church.
