His colleagues recognized him for his expert knowledge of renal disease, caring nature and compassion for the well-being of others.

On July 27, 1957, he married Elaine E Nelson. Together they raised four children, dedicating their lives to their faith and their family. Richard had a love of travel and a lifelong passion for learning. He found joy in enriching and encouraging the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Condolences

The family of Dr. Richard D. Wagoner has received the following condolences.

We were very sorry to learn of Dick's death.  He was a wonderful man, a terrific doctor, and was a major influence on my career as both a mentor and as an example of what it meant to be a Mayo doctor.  I am sure that he will be missed a great deal by his children and grandchildren.

I did not know that he'd played QB at Carleton.  Whether or not that somehow explained his apparent hatred of my Green Bay Packers is something else that I won't ever know, but he was forgiven for those feelings a long time ago.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dr. Dan Wochos

Scottsdale, AZ

Dear Gretchen, kathy, Susan, Joe and family:  We have such fond memories of our times with Dick, Elaine and all of you.  He was gentleman in every sense of the word, a gifted physician, lining and proud husband, father and grandfather.  May he rest in peace and may you all receive the love and comfort you deserve at this difficult time.  Wish we were there with you all.

Such a kind man. I worked at desk W-17 briefly in the 1970's. He made the extra effort to stop by OB when I had my first child and I always appreciated the extra thoughtfulness!

Dear Wags, So sorry to hear about the loss of your dad.  Please know that we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.  Peace to you and your family.  Todd Young

Dear Wagoner family Judy and I will be away this week and will miss the services for Dick. I worked with him at Mayo in an administrative roll. We also traveled with him on several of his overseas trips. In addition Dick got me involved in the Demontrevillle Retreats in the Twin cities. It was always a pleasure to be associated with Dick both at work and as a friend. He will be added to our list of prayers. Peace.

Such a thoughtful and caring man and beautiful family.  Joe, Kathy, Gretchen, Susie:  You and your families were blessed to have been so close and to have enjoyed his company throughout the years. Quality time is special time and we've enjoyed what we've spent of it with you.  May your memories help you through the sadness of your loss.  Rich and Elaine have been reunited and are spending the rest of retirement together in a far more peaceful world with Him.  God bless.

Jan Wagoner Crownover, Chistie, David & Catherine

Dear Gretchen (and family), I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.  I remember him with fondness and appreciation of his medical expertise and adventures.  You, your family and your dad are in my prayers.
