Dorothy M. Meredith

Dory Meredith went home on Friday morning, March 6th. She was comforted by her husband, Swede, of 67 years by her side. Dorothy May Holmberg was born in Duluth , MN on May 21, 1924 and came to Rochester in 1927. She attended Rochester Public Schools and graduated in 1942. Dory was a secretary in the Rochester School system for 15 years. She was active in drama skits, music groups while in high school. Dory was a member of the former United Brethren Church where she was confirmed and became a member in 1937. She was a member of the Otterbein Guild, Women’s Society, choir, and sang for many weddings and funerals.

Dorothy married Earl L. Meredith, Jr. on November 1, 1947 in Cresco, Iowa. She is survived by her husband, two sons Mark (Lory Peterson), Alan (Connie), and one daughter Susan of Duluth, four grandchildren Chris (Clancey) Patterson, Ben Patterson, Alyssia Meredith, and Elizabeth (Andy) Gappa, 4 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and “adopted daughters.” She is preceded in death by two infant sisters, brothers David(Nancy) Holmberg and Earl (June) Holmberg, sister Evelyn (Delton) Renspe, and her daughter, Ann (Mike) Miles.

Dory enjoyed baking, flowers, camping, watching the birds, friends, reading, humor, and music. She served as a trustee and Sunday School teacher at Homestead United Methodist Church, president of the United Methodist Women, and was a member of the AOUW Ashlar Lodge, a current member of the Sons of Norway, and a weekly gathering of the Retired School Secretaries.

There will be no reviewal and the body has been cremated. The Visitation will be at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home on March 20 from 4-7 PM. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may be given to Channel One, Ronald McDonald House, Salvation Army, or any charity of your choice.

Sending hugs and sympathy from Sue Meredith's friends in Clover Valley (Duluth, MN). Having met Sue's mom on a couple of occasions, I can say she was a treasure. So sorry for her loss.

     I am always saddened when I see obituaries for dear friends. My heartfelt condolences and prayers for all of you. Dorie will be missed greatly.
