Brent Jewell

The funeral service for Brent W. Jewell will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday February 6, 2015 in the River Park Chapel, Macken funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Buller officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00p.m.to 8:00 p.m. Thursday February 5, 2015 in the River Park Chapel and one hour before the service at the funeral home on Friday.  Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester.

Brent, 26 of Bloomington, formerly of Rochester, died of a brief illness at his home Monday February 2, 2015.

Brent was born July 23, 1988 in South Korea. He grew up in Rochester attending Lincoln at Mann, Willow Creek, and graduated from Mayo High School in 2006. He then attended The University of Minnesota Morris and later Winona State University.  Brent was a representative for DCM Services in Minneapolis.

Survivors include his parents Debra and Ralph Jewell of Eyota, sisters Kate (Ryan) Thompson-Jewell and Camille (Deke) Timm both of Rochester, his maternal grandmother Kathryn Haen and paternal grandmother Trudy Jewell both of Rochester, his nieces and nephews Ethan, Landon, Sylvia  Thompson-Jewell and Norah and Braeden Timm.  Many aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Thomas Haen and paternal grandfather Ralph Jewell Sr.

Brent lived with a life challenge of juvenile diabetes, which did not stop him from doing the things he loved, such as snowboarding, fishing, Frisbee golf, skateboarding, and going to concerts. Brent was a gifted musician and vocalist. He played guitar and piano, was a solo artist, as well as a member of several bands. Brent especially loved summer fishing trips to Lake Kabetogama with his family every year.

Brent was a blessing to his family and friends. His enthusiasm for life, his kindness, and his positive attitude touched everyone he met.  Brent was smart, funny, caring and talented in so many ways.  He was the sunshine of our lives and losing him leaves an emptiness that can never be filled.  We had him for 26 joyful years, a time too short for those who loved him.  We love you Bubba-Lou!

Memorials are preferred to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Lincoln K-8 music program.

Condolences

The family of Brent Jewell has received the following condolences.

Hi,

I did not know Brent, but I was reading HONY comments and saw Callies post and felt instantly connect... Seeing all your kind words and support fills my heart with joy - at the same time I feel your loss so deeply, and wish no-one had to experience losing someone too early.

Brent was a person who obviously was so loved beyond explaination, and missed in that matter as well.

I would like to share a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln, called the Bixby letter. It has helped me in times of grief.

I wish you all the best in the future, and Brent will never be forgotten - he lives on in his music, your memories and everyone he ever met or touched in some way.

RIP Brent.

Loving regards

Eric Macody Lund, Oslo Norway

Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln

I was lucky enough to be a classmate of Brent's at Mayo.  We did many episodes on the "Spartan Scene," together as well as had a few other classes with him.  He was one class act.  Always a smile on his face and always a joke to tell.  He will be greatly missed.  So sorry for your loss.  RIP Brent.

Ralph & Deb Jewell and family,

As most folks were stunned at the news of Brent's passing. We cannot come close to knowing how you must be feeling. We can only hope through your faith, knowing that Brent is now with other family members & friends. And the same faith you hold onto along with your family and friends give you the strength to endure one day at a time. Mary and I were both surprised at how very nice and almost entertaining Brent's service was, and his video was just awesome. We wish you our sympathy to all the Jewell family.

Camille, I can't express how sad I am for you and your family. I only meet Bret a couple times, but what got me was his smile. It is so catching, it makes you smile. I know there is nothing I can write that will ease the pain. But if there was I  would. You have always been there for me in good and bad times, and if your brother is anything like you what a tragic loss. I know it will take time and there will always be a empty spot in your heart. But if you need me I'm there. Hang in there.

Bless You,

Jim

I cannot find words to express the sorrow I feel for all of you.  It just saddens me to hear of this sudden loss.

If there is anything I can do, please ask.  If you would like to just talk, please give me a call at 303-246-0878.

I only met Brent a couple of times, but he seemed to be the neatest kid.  Bryan has told me how talented he was.

The world will not be the same without Brent.

Sincerely,

Keith

We were blessed to have Brent at Lincoln when I started as a 4/5 teacher with Mickey Laughland and Jenny Schlotthauer in 1998.  His smile and patience and quick wit always made us feel good.  He was a great example of the uniqueness of Lincoln and how special it is here. He will be sorely missed.

I hope that Brent's family knows how much all of us loved Brent at Morris.  He was such a bright and happy person to see around campus and he was friends with so many different kids of people.  Brent cared about other people and always went out of his way to make someone happy.  He was the kind of person that everybody was happy to see and no one could say anything bad about.  Everyone would crack up at his songs and I am so sorry that we lost him.

Deb and family,

I am so sad to hear about the loss of your son and brother, Brent.  Please know my prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.  May the memories of him live in your heart forever until you meet again.  Sincerely, Cheryl Brugger

Brent, you will be truly missed I don't know where to start because I all the memories I have of you will last a lifetime. I was truly blessed to have met you and  got a chance to hang out with you. I can't wrap my mind around the ideal that I will not get another chance to see you again, talk to you, or even laugh with you about your candy cane dances. I just want you to know that you will always be remembered and as a friend I will always have a spot in my heart for you.

Miss You Brent,

Your friend

LaKisha

Ralph and family,

I worked with Brent at Menards South, he was always happy, even on stressful days he could find something to smile about.  He worked hard, and but made it fun.

I know he had many interests, and loved life.

I hope we all can find comfort of knowing that even in his short time with us on earth, he touched so many people and was a positive role model and leader.  May You know he was truly loved by many, and will be deeply missed.

God Bless

Penheiter Family.

Dear Jewell family,

I was shocked to hear of Brent's passing yesterday. Throughout middle and high school, Brent brought an incredibly positive energy and joy to everyone. My best memories with Brent have to be from Mayo's track team. i will always remember a very tough workout from our junior year season that the sprinters and distance groups were running together. Brent's encouragement and vocal support helped me and the rest of us get through those intervals, and his enthusiasm and sense of fun kept our spirits in the right place at every meet. From running with him on the track, to seeing him in the hallway, to hearing him play his guitar at the talent show, I will always hold wonderful memories of Brent and miss him terribly. I cannot imagine how hard a time this must be for you, but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, and that your son touched all of our lives at Mayo.

What a devastating loss.  I was lucky enough to be able to call Brent a friend for 10+ years, and he was one of the kindest, funniest and most vibrant people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.  He will be missed by many.  My deepest condolences to his family.  Rest in Peace, love ya bud.

We are so sorry to hear of your family's loss. May your son and brother's great spirit and joy live on in the many memories and thoughts.

Prayers from our family to yours,

Jeff, Melissa, Jayden, Megan and Brady Engelken

Our thoughts and prayers are with Brent's family. We are so sorry for your loss.  May your tears of grief today turn to smiles and joy with all the wonderful memories of Brent.

Brent was definately a "light" here at DCM Services and will be missed by many of us, he always made time to say hi and ask how you were on any particular day. My sympathy goes out to the family, friends and loved ones, which I am possitive he had so many in his life. You all are in my thoughts and prayers and I do wish you all strength in this most difficult time.

Dear Deb, Ralph, Kate, Camille and Family

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Brent. He would come over and play with Keith and Alicia when they were kids.  What I remember of him then he was so kind and polite.  I couldn't even imagine what you are all going through it is nothing anyone would want to indure. My prayer are with all of you.  I will keep you in my heart.  I am sorry I am not in Rochester at this time I am  living in AZ until April.  I would love to come and give you all a big hug.  Thinking of you all.   Marlene Earl and Family

I am so shocked and saddened to learn of Brent's passing. I will remember him by his smile and witty comments. I don't recall ever seeing him without a smile, how can you not do the same when in his presence? I will miss his glow and goofiness here at DCM Services. My heart aches for his family and friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

I can't believe it, it seems that just yesterday I had invited him to my eighth birthday party.  I know we grew apart over the years but that will no lessen the pain.  My condolences to the family.

Camille and family I'm sorry for your loss. Look to God for guidance and healing during this difficult time. God bless you all

I am so terribly saddened over the loss of such a vibrant life. Brent was my manager at Menards for a few months and he was awesome! He's also a great friend of my boyfriend, Corey. So I had the pleasure of spending more time with him after he left Menards. I'll miss karaoke and remember the mondays at Applebees with everyone. I'll especially remember the time I beat him at tic-tac-toe and he accidently knocked my entire drink off the table trying to cover up his loss! And watching him and Chris sing Rihanna and Eminem at karaoke. They will always be great memories to cherish. It's so hard to think of such a vibrant, funny, positive soul losing his life so young. He didn't deserve it. We talked all the time about diabetes and having that in common and the way we have to live because of it. Brent lived life fully. I hope he is at peace and I keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers. The world defenitly has lost a little bit of light.

Brent was always the friendliest, kindest, and outgoing person all the times I had the privilege to be around him. He will definitely be missed by myself and many.

It was quite a shock for us here at DCMS to learn of Brent's passing.  What a fine young man he is!  He was wonderful at his job and we are so very lucky to have had him as long as we did.  He made a difference every day to those he spoke with and those around him.  Always a smile and happy.  An Angel now in the heavens to watch over your family.  May you find comfort, content and strength within during such a difficult time.  God Bless to you and family.

Dear Ralph and family,

Our prayers, thoughts and sympathies are going out to all of you.  Am so very sorry for your sudden loss.

May your memories of all the joy and gladness Brent gave to the family and those around him strengthen and

comfort you.

Prayers and loving thoughts,

Georgene and Gene Hausner

I am very sad to hear the news of Brent's passing. I knew Brent as a diver during high school. He was a great influence on everyone. He was a crowd pleaser and could make anyone smile. He will always be remembered for his love of life. I'm glad I knew Brent.

I am so sorry to hear that Brent has passed away.

I was lucky to be in Brent's life for one school year at Lincoln At Mann. I got to be one of his Middles teachers. Brent and his buddies enjoyed surprising me enough to make me laugh. One of their goals was to get me to, in Brent's words "Crack up and lose it to the point of needing to give the kids an extra outside break." In my recollection Brent was quick witted, thoughtful, joyful, and creative, and accomplished his laughter goal a several times that school year.

I am thankful that I got to share a small part of Brent's life.

I am praying for peace, comfort, love, and joy to bless the family, friends, and acquaintances of Brent.
