Donald A. Krueger

The Memorial Service for Donald Albert Krueger will be Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Heining officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be held at a later date at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Denver, Iowa.

Donald Albert Krueger, 86, of Rochester, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Season’s Hospice.

Donald was born on July 6, 1928 in West Union, Iowa to Carl and Martha Krueger.  He graduated from Denver High School in 1945.  He worked at his father’s Denver Meat Locker until entering the Navy in February of 1952.  On May 19, 1950, he married Arlene Jans at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa.  Upon being discharged from the Navy in December of 1953 he attended Wartburg college for a short time and then later worked for DX Sunray in Waterloo, Iowa, for 7 years.  He was then employed at Iowa Securities as a mortgage loan officer.  In 1965 he was transferred to Dubuque, Iowa, with Norwest Mortgage and later moved to Rochester with Norwest in 1974 until his retirement in 1989.

Mr. Krueger was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church for many years participating in the Men’s Bible Study Group and Shalom Christ Care group.  He had been a Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and held various church offices in previous congregations during his lifetime.  He had a great love for music especially of the Big Band Era and Jazz musicians.  He played the trombone much of his life and was involved with four different dance bands in Iowa over the span of many years.  He also played in the Navy Band during his enlistment.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Arlene; daughters, Mary (Mike) Hanley of Rochester, Lisa (Ford) Erickson of North Oaks; and, four grandchildren, Matt Hanley, Allison Hanley, Kai Erickson and Cody Erickson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wallace, and a sister, Mickey Fasse.

Don’s joy in life was his family and especially his grandchildren.  He had a vibrant and abiding faith in his Lord and strove to nurture it daily.

Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice of Rochester.

Your family has my deepest sympathy. I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Don will be dearly missed. Though now you are grieving, please remember that you are not alone. Psalms 46:1 says, "God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of distress." Pray to Him for strength. He will really help you get through this difficult time (Isaiah 41:10) because He cares for you very much (1 Peter 5:7).

While Thank You notes are forthcoming, we'd like to thank everyone on-line for their condolences received either on this website, via email or in-person at the funeral.  Some of you even traveled large distances to be at the funeral and we want you to know how much it meant to us for you to be there.... for everyone who attended to be there.  Your love and support makes a huge difference when trying to adjust to and accept the loss of our father.  He has found his peace in heaven.  All of us left behind must find our peace with his passing, and our resolve to continue his legacy of celebrating life.  Don celebrated his life through music, comedy, family and religion.  Those of you who were able to attend the funeral had the chance to see the photo-boards illustrating all these aspects of his life and what a wonderful, full life he lived.

We also want to thank Macken Funeral home for making such a difficult time, a seamless, supportive and caring process, as well as everyone at Redeemer Lutheran Church whose congregation is second to none.

There are stories upon stories to be told of Don's adventures that will be handed down to the generation yet to come.  Some of these were shared privately at the luncheon and they will continue to be shared when we see you again.

Thank you everyone for your love and support.  In the spirit of our father/grandfather, celebrate your life and those of the ones you love every day!

Peace,

Lisa, Ford, Kai and Cody on behalf of Don's family

Sorry I can't be with you all today. Uncle Don was the best uncle. It was always a good time when Don was around I will keep his sense of humor with me forever. Thinking of you all today and always. Alan Myers

Don always had a friendly and ready smile for us.

Sending our sympathy to your family.

I always looked up to Don as I was growing up. When I was choosing my career, I followed him into the Mortgage business.  He assisted me in joining Norwest where I have had a fullfilling career.  We will miss his humor and the stories he would tell about Grandpa Chill and Grandma Martha.  Now he has joined them in glory.  We rejoice and celebrate his faithfull life to his family and Church.
