Betty Jean Clark

Betty Jean Clark passed away peacefully at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the age of 86 years, with her family by her side.

She was born on September 16, 1928 to Helen and Harold Emmons of Ridgeway, Minnesota. She married Norman R. Clark on April 19, 1947. The couple farmed and lived in St. Charles, MN until 1963 when they moved to Rochester. Betty was employed by Schmidt Printing for 29 years until her retirement in 1991.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Norman who died in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Jean (Vernon) Johnson and Judy Strunk (Tim Bauer) both of Rochester. Two sons, Gary (Debra) Clark of Aitkin, MN and Brian (Barb Mollberg) Clark of Detroit Lakes. Two grandsons also survive, Todd Strunk of Rochester and David Clark of Duluth. Betty is survived by sisters and  brothers, Geraldine Smith of Minnesota City, Donna Hutchinson of Osteen, Florida, Lois Schacht of Winona, Roger (Kay) Emmons of Winona, Harold (Mary) Emmons of Winona, Rollie (Lana) Emmons of Stewartville and many nieces and nephews.

Betty enjoyed visiting with her family and close friends, watching the Vikings and Twins, along with fishing and gardening.

A funeral Mass for Betty is scheduled at 10:00AM Wednesday, October 8th in the River Park Chapel of Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 7th from 5PM to 7PM and also one hour prior to the service at River Park Chapel on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Heartland Hospice or the charity of their choice.

The family of Betty Clark would like to extend a special thank you to the medical professionals at St. Marys Hospital for the wonderful care they provided Betty this past week, the staff of Cottagewood Senior Community for their excellent care of Betty these past 1-1/2 years and the staff of Heartland Hospice. We have very much appreciated the care and compassion these organizations extended to our mother and grandmother.

Condolences

The family of Betty Jean Clark has received the following condolences.

I met Betty Clark when I bought Schmidt Printing in the spring of 1976. She was one of only 11 employees at that time. I worked closely with her until her retirement 15 years later. I remember her well: faithful, dependable, competent (very competent!) and, above all else, easy to work with. She never complained, never had an unkind word for anyone.

My condolences to you all, and especially to you, Judy. I remember you too. Your mom was one of the kindest people I ever knew, and she is a loss to all who knew her.

Sharon and I are retired now and living in Florida so we will not be at the funeral. However, we will be making a contribution to the Rochester Area Foundation in Betty's honor.

Rest in peace, Betty Clark!
