Emilie M. Winter

The Memorial Service for Emilie M. Winter will be at 11:00am Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the River Park Chapel of the Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Helberg officiating.  Visitation will be one hour in advance of the service on Thursday.  Burial of Emilie’s ashes will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Winter, 93, of Rochester died Sunday, May 18, at Golden Living Center West.

Emilie was born May 30, 1920 in Stewartville, MN to Jacob and Maria Gathje.  After growing up she graduated from the Normal Teachers School in Austin and later taught south of Stewartville in the country.  After teaching for a few years she moved to Rochester and worked for Jerry Daly Plumbing (Rochester Plumbing.) She married Herbert L. Winter on November 4, 1942.  Herbert, a retired plumber, died in 1991. After her marriage, she stayed home to raise her family.

Emilie enjoyed gardening, going to their cabin in Wisconsin and enjoyed reading most of all.

Survivors include two children, Kathleen Winter and Larry Winter both of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Harriet Winter of Byron and sister, Florence (Kenneth) Haack of San Diego; 5 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by 2 sons, 7 brothers, 7 sisters and one step granddaughter.

Memorials are preferred to the family.
