A celebration of life for Barry William Rink will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Macken Funeral Home River Park Chapel. Sacristan Sister Kathleen Marie Welscher will officiate a prayer service at 7:00 pm.
Barry Rink, 65, passed away on Monday, February 24, surrounded by his family and friends. Barry battled his pancreatic cancer like he lived his life – with grace, dignity and stubborn strength. The family is deeply appreciative of Mayo Hospice for their support and expertise.
Barry was born at Saint Marys Hospital on January 8, 1949, to Arthur and Shirley (Zelmer) Rink. He graduated from Byron High School in 1968. He was a Vietnam veteran. He married Georgina Welscher on January 17, 1976, and they began their life together in Byron.
Barry worked as a dairy farmer for 30 years, following which he worked for various companies, his most recent position being a bus driver for the Byron School District. Barry pursued his passion for growing vegetables and flowers and working with the family’s horses. Barry also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
Survivors include his wife and their four children, Nicolas (Jamie Behnken) Rink and daughter Megan (Byron), Michael Rink (Byron), David (Tracy Luhmann) Rink and daughters Lydia and Claire (Rochester), and Catherine Rink and son Weston (Byron), his mother, Shirley (Rochester), two brothers, Jeffrey (Cathy) Rink (Hastings MN), Arthur (Kathy) Rink (Sussex WI), and three sisters Carol (Harry) Sharp (Hollywood FL), Linda Santoro (Byron), and Mary Rink, (Sioux Falls). He is preceded in death by his father.
Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society (Relay for Life – Fishing to Fight Cancer) or Channel One.

Condolences
The family of Barry W. Rink has received the following condolences.
Georgina and Family,
I offer my deepest sympathy on Barry's passing. It was many years ago when I was in the Dominic Club in Rochester attending activities and met Barry. Visiting at your family farm, the trailer, Barry at the tie stall barn and Barry visiting at my farm are only a few of the many memories. Barry always made me feel so welcome and no matter what he was doing had time to talk. Talking farming, crops, dairy, tractors, cars, trucks, and equipment was serious business. As years went by our families grew and as our families grew up our lives became so busy with the activities of family life. Over the years Christmas letters, news from friends, and in the last couple years working in the same building as your son, Nicolas, has given me news of Barry and your family.
It was with great sadness to learn of Barry's struggle with cancer and today of his passing. May God bless you and your family with strength, in your grief, to remember Barry's life.
Sympathy,
Roger

Dear Georgina and Family,
Georgina this going to hard to do, I have to tell you and family how sorry we are , but I lost a Great friend but not in mind and prayer. When I think of Berry I think of a song I heard ( ITS NOT BARRY WE CRY FOR ITS US WE CRY FOR OUR GREAT LOSS RICK )
We will remember the good times we had together over the years - skiing when it was so cold we should have had the good sense to stay home, picnics at your home on warm summer days, and just passing the time sitting around talking together. Time will only make those memories more dear.
We have all lost someone dear to us with Barry's passing. We can't replace him but we can remember him with love.
George, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers and will stay there for a long, long time. Barry is beyond pain now and we know that he shares Heaven with so many good people we have known and loved. He will be missed.
