Jon Gregory Hanson
A celebration of life for Jon Hanson will be held at 5:00pm on Thursday, January 30, 2014 in the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home with Chaplain Kate Piderman officiating, followed by a reception. Visitation is from 3:00-5:00pm on Thursday.
Jon Hanson, 65, passed away at home on Monday, January 27, surrounded by his wife, family and good friend, Jeff.
Jon Gregory Hanson was born at Saint Marys Hospital on May 14, 1948, to John (Jack) and Janice (Thielbar) Hanson. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1966 and graduated from RCTC in accounting. He married Julie Hagedorn on October 7, 1978, and they began their life together in Rochester.
Jon worked at Olmsted Community Hospital and Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center. He retired in 2006. In retirement, he pursued one of his passions, helping animals. He volunteered at Paws and Claws, and together with his wife, often fostered dogs until they could find their forever homes. Jon also enjoyed fishing, especially large mouth bass in Minnesota and Florida. He was an avid motorcycle rider and fulfilled one of his dreams last year by attending the Sturgis motorcycle rally. He had a special charm that attracted elderly ladies. He especially enjoyed vacationing with his wife.
Jon Hanson battled his cancer diagnosis like he lived his life – with grace and dignity.
Jon was a kind and patient man who valued his friendships. For Jon, the most important thing in his life was being a friend. And he was a friend to many people and animals.
Survivors include his wife and their two loyal dogs, Scout and Benjamin, and numerous relatives.
He is preceded in death by his cousin, Jane Hanson, his father and mother, and sister, Karen Erickson. Thank you to Mayo Hospice for their support and expertise. Special thanks to our core team: Ginny, Janill, Jeff, Nancy, Sandra, and Susan.
Memorials may be given to Paws and Claws Spay/Neuter Fund or Emergency Fund, or any humane society of your choice.
He will be greatly missed, and there will never be another like Jon.
