Dorothy “Dottie” Decker

Dorothy L Decker our beloved mother died February 19th of complications of
Alzheimer’s at Clare Bridge memory care in Owatonna. She was 86 years
old. Our mother has gone into the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ. God
bless all her caregivers. Dottie was born in Tennessee on April 17th 1926
on a Farm. Her father died in 1933 when she was seven years old and it
was a struggle to survive for her large family
In the 1940’s during WWII she followed her brother to St Louis
Missouri to work in a munitions factory making cannon shells. There she
met a Byron Minnesota farm boy named Paul Decker who was in the army.
Paul was functioning as Military Police and as a high command driver. They
married in January of 1945 before Paul shipped to combat in Europe. Less
than one month later Paul was severely wounded during a fire fight in
Germany near Trier. He was not expected to survive. He survived.

Post WWII they raised four children together. Dottie was a
fantastic mother and grandmother providing for her children. She worked
many jobs in retail and as a co-manager with Paul at Soldiers field golf
course restaurant for 10 years. Dottie worked for Mayo Clinic for 17 years
in the department of Radiology. She was a tireless worker in the service
of others. She helped so many people. She was very crafty and enjoyed
knitting, crocheting and pottery. Her greatest love was as a Texas snow
bird. Dottie and Paul had a trailer in Texas and loved going south for
the winter.

Dorothy is survived by her four children; Daughter Paula
(Rochester), and three sons: Rog and Karen (Andover MN), Tom and Binxia
(Rochester), Jim and Shelly of (Edina MN). Dorothy has eight grandchildren
and 14 Great grandchildren. She has two remaining siblings; sister Jo
Grimes (Altus Oklahoma), and brother Charles Wimberley (San Antonio
Texas). She was proceeded in death by her husband Paul and her grandchild
Chris Decker, her parents and 4 brothers.

The Memorial Service will be at 11:00am, Monday February 25, 2013 at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with Rev. Paul Nelson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

She will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with our
father Paul. Joyfully she is at the Kingdoms throne. Eternal life praise
Jesus.

Condolences

The family of Dorothy “Dottie” Decker has received the following condolences.

Tom and Roger, So sorry to hear of your Mother's passing, it hasn't been that long since you lost your Dad too. Just know that your old friends from 11-1 RMH and beyond wish you comfort and condolences.

Cheryl Beier

Dottie was a great lady to work with at Mayo x-ray.

Dear Paula, I worked at the Golf Course for quite a few years, and enjoyed " Dottie's " cooking almost daily. With her hard work ethic, i'm sure there were days that I saw her more than you. I relish ( no pun intended ) those fun times. Lana and I wish you and your family the best in these difficult days. Looking forward to seeing you next year.

Bill, Karen and the rest of Dottie's Family,

We're sorry to hear of your loss. We all know we will lose our Parents but it is never easy when it happens. Wendy and I are thinking of you all and extend our sympathy.

Dave and Wendy Johnson

Roger, Paula, Tom and Jim,

Sorry hear about your mom.    We are thinking of you all.

Cousin Judy and Bill

Tom, John , Joe and family. I want you to know I am thinking of you. I know how much Dot loved you all. She was always so proud of her grandchildren. I was so lucky to know her and their was never anything she would not do for her family. I enjoyed many fantastic meals at her home. She had a love of life and she will be missed.

Hi Paula. What great times I had growing up with the St. John's and Pius kids, especially the Decker crew. Countless hours dancing nights away at Mary's on "the hill." I hear some of the oldies and I'm right back there, downstairs, slow dancing to I Only Have eyes For You, then rocking the night away to Tallahassee Lassie, La Bamba, with a dash of the Twist for good measure. Keep those good times in mind when you think of your Mom, your kin, and all of us who knew and appreciated all the parents that got us to now. They loved seeing us have a good time as much as we did having it. I'm biased but I don't think there was ever better times than those innocent years when simple 3 minute hummable songs could set the mood of the days we all shared together in Rochester. God Bless the parents.

Steve
