Mary Margaret Siepmann
Mary Margaret Siepmann, 85, of Rochester passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday November 25 at Rochester Methodist Hospital. She was so full of life that no one, including herself realized that she had terminal colon cancer for months and was only discovered this past week when even her energy could not overcome the great toll that it had been taking. After seeing all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild on Friday and Saturday, she contentedly joined her parents Hugh & Lucille Johnson, brother Don Johnson, and grandson Jeffrey Michael Siepmann in the Light of Heaven with God. She is survived by her brother Hugh F. Johnson; husband Richard; son James (Victoria) Siepmann, MD and their children Justine (Peter Haslanger), Jennifer, Jessica (and her son Carson), Joelle, and Jarett; daughter Margaret (Scott) Tompkins and their children Joshua and David.
Born in the small town of Sibley, Missouri which had a population of only a couple hundred, she was educated in a one-room school house. After she got her education degree, she went back to that same on-room school house to give back some of what she had been given. She was a generous woman who was always doing what she could for others and her community without any desire for recognition. It was only when she volunteered on a parish council, school board, and such did others get a glimpse of her kind and giving nature.
Mary enjoyed traveling, especially to her ancestral Ireland, and was always accompanied by her best friend, her husband Richard. She was also an author with her last work being published in a magazine just this month. In 2005 their children and grandchildren threw a very memorable 50th Wedding Anniversary gala for them and their friends. This year Mary and Richard were able to celebrate their 57th Anniversary of Marriage. She will be missed by all, but has left a legacy of kindness and fond memories.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul E. Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00PM – 7:00PM on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Pius Building Fund.
