Glen E. McCormick M.D.

Dr. Glen Eric McCormick of Rochester passed away from heart failure on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at the age of 92.  Glen was born near Lansing, Michigan on January 11, 1920, and grew up in the Northern Peninsula of Michigan.  He graduated from Ferris State University (Grand Rapids, MI) in 1942, and received his medical degree in 1946 from Marquette University Medical School (Milwaukee, WI).  Glen married his wife, Virginia (Lijewski), in November 1946; they had had four children: Paul, Daniel, Mary and David.  After a 3 year residency (1946-1949) in Pediatrics at Letterman General Hospital (San Francisco, CA), he and his wife moved to Milwaukee, WI where he practiced as a Pediatrician.  Glen changed his medical practice in 1962, and had a private practice as an Ophthalmologist until his retirement in 1998.  He then moved to Rochester, MN where he lived with his wife until her death in 2002.  After moving from Bradenton, FL in 2008, Glen became a permanent resident of Madonna Towers of Rochester.

Glen is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, and youngest son, David.  He is survived by his three children, Paul, Daniel, and Mary (Kaufman), son-in-law, Stephan Kaufman, daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Shea McCormick, many nieces and nephews, and five grandchildren, Patrick, Danny, Leah, Rachel, and Zachary.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 1600 11th Ave SE, Rochester, MN, with Fr. Kevin Connolly (Pastor) officiating.  A private family interment will take place immediately after the service at Grandview Memorial Gardens.  Friends may visit with the family from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. before the mass at Resurrection Catholic Church.  Memorials to Resurrection’s St. Peter’s Pence for the Poor, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.), or The Salvation Army are suggested.

Macken Funeral Home of Rochester is in charge of the arrangements.

Condolences

The family of Glen E. McCormick M.D. has received the following condolences.

Glen welcomed us into MT when we moved into apt #800 directly below him. We reminieced about how we had Interned together at St. Joseph Hospital and how happy we were when we both got our army orders sending us to San Frncisco' instead of Korea. Little did we realize that he was to be at Letterman Hospital and I was to be at sea.

He was a great guy, always cheerful and upbeat. We are still at MT but Elaine is in Skilled Nursing Care and I am in Hospice Care.

Dan and Family,

Liza and I are out of town but wanted to extend our saddness and sorrow at the passing of your Father. Over the years, I`ve heard so much about him from you, Dan. He was a great Man, a good father, and caring physician. We are happy he had you all, his work, and a long life. He certainly had to be fulfilled. Our thoughts and shared grief are with you and your family.

Tom and Liza Spelsberg

Long time Mayo colleague( 20 + years) of Dan

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
