Anna Adelaide Riley Persson

Anna Adelaide Riley Persson, 94, died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Madonna Meadows Assisted in Rochester.

Anna was born September 25, 1917, in Erin Prairie, WI, the youngest daughter of Thomas and Ann (Kelly) Riley. Anna graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy High School in St. Paul, MN. Following high school, Anna worked as a nursing assistant at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Paul for several years. She married Carl Lewis Persson of Edgeley, ND on October 1, 1953 at the Cathedral of St. Paul, St. Paul, MN. During their 48 years together they relocated to Tacoma, Washington, Edgeley, ND and Fargo, ND before settling in New York Mills, MN to farm for 35 years. Mr. Persson, a WWII veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps, passed away on August 21, 2001.

Anna is survived by two daughters; Mary (Douglas) Meine of Rochester and Jane Jordan of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Laura Meine of Milwaukee, WI, Joseph Meine of Rochester and April Jordan of Denver, CO; brother-in-law, Fred (Mary Nell) Persson of Fargo, ND; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Ted) Martin of Arthur, ND, and Doris (Robert) Alin of Fargo, ND, Barbara Persson, Valley City, ND, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl, and sisters, Florence (Louis) Burbrich,Chicago, IL, Mary Riley, New Richmond, WI, and Margaret (George) Medendorp, Hoopeston, IL, mother and father in-law, Hattie and Fred Persson, Edgeley, ND, brother-in-laws, Andy (Lynn) Persson, Jerry Persson, Edgeley, ND, sister-in-laws, Alice (Russell) Belquist, New Rockford, ND, Violet (Edward) Hickey, Belleview, WA, Ruth (Glen) Lacina, St. Paul Park, MN, and Joan (Robert) Lagadenski, Edgeley, ND.

Anna was a loving and devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed baking, sewing, reading, and listening to music from her younger years. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester with visitation one hour before the Mass. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
