Beverly died on March 2, 2012 at the age of 80 at Rochester Methodist Hospital.
Beverly was born September 25, 1931 to Linnea and Verner Nystrom in Duluth, MN. On August 8, 1953 she married Robert P. Fjelsted and he survives. Bev met Bob while she was working at Snyder’s Drug in Duluth in 1947. They started dating while both attending University of Minnesota-Duluth. Bob left to attend the main University in Minneapolis and Bev followed in 1952 to work at Northrop King in Minneapolis, MN. In 1953 Bob left for the service and when he returned on leave they were married. Bob returned to the service and Bev stayed and worked at Northrop King until 1954, when she and Bob moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Bev got a job at Sandia Laboratories. During that time she gave birth to her first son Kevin and continued working for Sandia Laboratories until 1960 when they moved back to Minnesota, where Bob began working for IBM in Rochester. Together, they built a house where she became a homemaker and gave birth to two more sons, Matt and Jon. Also during that time she volunteered doing work to support handicapped children where she started a swim course at the YMCA. She also drove school bus. She attended RCTC College of Nursing and worked at Dr. Nelson’s Dental Office in the lab. Because of Bev and Bob’s love of the water, they purchased a cabin in Wabasha, MN on the Mississippi River. In 1977 after Bob’s retirement, they moved to the Wabasha Cabin. She worked hard helping Bob do extensive remodeling on the cabin and made it their home.
She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, knitting and reading. She was an active volunteer at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where she served on the hospital foundation board for 20 years. In addition to her other interests, activities include PEO membership, Plant and Bloom Garden Club in Rochester, the Philip and Ester Fjelsted endowment for scholarships at St. Olaf’s College. Bev loved her summertimes at Lake Blanche enjoying family time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Bev will greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Fjelsted is not only survived by her husband of 58 years, but also children, Kevin (Marcia) Fjelsted of St.Paul, MN, Matthew (Dello) Fjelsted of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Jonathan (Cindy) Fjelsted of Rochester; four grandsons, Erik, Mark, Joseph and Tommy; five granddaughters, Theresa, Mary, Kayla, Eryn and Abby; one brother Dale (Nora) Nystrom of Duluth MN; sisters, Marlene Coffland of Minneapolis MN, Raynette Bedford of Tampla, FL, Adelle Abernethy of Duluth MN, and Carol (Merlyn) Dammer of Hermantown, MN; sister-in-law Deva Fjelsted of Raymond,WA; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bernard (Bud) Nystrom; in-laws Philip and Ester Fjelsted; and brother-in-law Dale Fjelsted.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Sunday March 4th 2012 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and also one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Condolences
The family of Beverly J. “Bev” Fjelsted has received the following condolences.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Fjelsted family. I so enjoyed working with Bev on Saint Elizabeth's Foundation as a board member, and volunteer at the Medical Center. She was very thorough about everything she did, and she was so helpful with our calendar mailing project and getting our matching gifts program with IBM started. I'll miss her a great deal. God bless all of you.
Carmen Tiffany, Saint Elizabeth's Community Development Foundation, Wabasha, MN.
Bob
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Please know that we will remember Bev's warm smile and friendly conversation over cocktails at the lake. She so clearly enjoyed the goings on around her and her grandkids. We will miss her, and raise a toast to her when we see Bob next at Blanche.

Dear Bob, boys, and kids all,
We are so saddened to learn of Bev's death. She was one lady with lots of enthusiasm, energy, and kindness. And, no, things will not be the same without her at Blanche. She will be missed by all of her "extended family" at the lake.

We are so sorry to hear of Bev's passing, but at the same time are pleased that she is now at rest and no longer in pain. Bev was a wonderful lady. We always looked forward to when she and Bob would show up here at Lake Blanche to spend some time. I suspect that if there are dandelions in heaven, Bev is already busy digging them up. Rest in peace, Bev. Your neighbors at Lake Blanche will always remember you with a smile.
Steve & Jan Nelson
We will love and miss you. You will be always in our thoughts..
