John Vern Clark

John V. Clark, 92, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2012 at Seasons Hospice surrounded by his family.  The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice in assisting with John’s final days.

He was born in Winona County on July 10, 1919, to Marie (Fix) and Vern Clark.  He graduated from St. Charles High School in St. Charles, MN.  After working at the Kahler Hospital as an orderly, John joined Mayo Clinic as an X-Ray Technician.  He was one of the first to take part in the x-ray program at the University of Minnesota in 1959.  Over the past years he served as District 5 President; State Convention Chairman; State President and Executive Board Member of the Minnesota Society of X-Ray Technologists.  John retired in 1984 after 40 years at Mayo Clinic.

John had many varied interests but mostly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He also loved spending time on his friend’s ranch in Wyoming.

John was united in marriage to Sylvia (Vandeputte) on February 26, 1952 in Marshall, Minnesota.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years; six children, Virginia (Peter) Campbell of Duluth, Kevin Clark and Dennis Clark of Rochester, Brad (Richele) of White Bear Lake, MN, Lori (Marlin) Keck of Rochester, and Kathy (Jeff) Martinson of Rochester; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, John, Nicholas, Sam, Katelyn, Aaron, Abby, Michael, Stacy, and Carrie; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo and Norman; and daughter-in-law, Vicki.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 10:30AM at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Gerald Mahon officiating.  A visitation will be held on Friday, February 17th from 5:00-8:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials in memory of John’s life to Seasons Hospice; or to Mayo Clinic Poverello Fund, 200 1st Street SW, Rochester, MN  55905.

Macken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences are welcome at mackenfuneralhome.com.

Condolences

The family of John Vern Clark has received the following condolences.

From my family I been informed of John's death. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

John was a proud man and I will always remember him as being extremely proud of his family.

I'm back in Texas, after attending John's service. If the mark of a man can be judged by the folks he leaves behind, John did a very good job while here on Earth. It was an honor to spend time with John's family, both those I have known for the last 25 years, and folks who I just met this weekend.

My last memory of John stems from a phone call this past Christmas. I spoke with his son Brad for a few minutes, then he passed the phone to John. The next thing I heard was John singing the first couple of verses of that old Marty Robbins tune, "El Paso". After he finished, (and he and I finished laughing), I told him that he sounded pretty good. He said, "I feel good!", followed by a chuckle. You made a lot of us feel good over the years, John. Rest In Peace.

Our sympathies to Sally and the entire family.  John was a part of our "family" as well.  He drove customer vehicles back and forth from Rochester to the dealership for many years.  He would share his opinions, give advice and just listen to us about variety of topics and we missed having him when he had to give up his driving job.  His faith and devotion to the church and his family was always apparent.  He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers to Johns family.  Always made my day when John would visit the Baldwin!  Always had a joke and a smile!  Heaven has gained a true angel!  He will be greatly missed!

We will miss Grandpa so much! Ryan always enjoyed talking to grandpa and hearing his stories :) I'll never EVER forget grandpa getting to meet Isabella and randomly bursting out in song singing "Oh Susanna" to her.  My memories of him are always fun, light-hearted and filled with love. We are so happy to know that grandpa is having a party in heaven right now!

Love always,

Ryan, Kate, and Isabella

John lived a beautiful, long life and left a legacy of amazing family members to keep his memory strong for many years to come. I will miss you John Clark. The Father has received another worthy angel to His service this week.

Love,

Stacey

Dear Sal et al,

We send you prayers and love from the west. We know that John is at peace and that his tough few last months are over.  You ,of course, know that you can call on us at anytime for anything. I know that Ginny is taking good care of you....and probably everybody else too!! Give yourselves a group hug from us.

Love,

Liz and Richard

We want to extend our deepest sympathy in your loss.  I am very familiar with Seasons Hospice and am glad that Uncle John was able to spend his final days there surrounded by family and friends.  We plan to be at the service on Saturday. Peace be with you now and always.

Deb and Gary Clark
