Douglas Kyle Peterson – Rochester
Rochester – Douglas Kyle Peterson, 66 of Rochester passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at his residence from ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease).
Doug was born June 27, 1945 in Fairmont Community Hospital. He grew up on a farm north of Granada, MN. He graduated from Granada High School in 1963. Doug worked for area farmers, Glen Reed Tire and W. Hodgman Road Builders.
In 1965, Doug went to Dunwoody Industrial Institute and graduated in 1967 in Architectural Drafting and Estimating. He was immediately drafted into the Army Infantry. He served in the 4th Division 1/12 Army Infantry as a machine gunner, where he was ranked at Sergeant E5. In 1969 when he came home, he worked in the drafting departments in several businesses ranging from steel fabricator, pre-stressed concrete and new homes. He worked in the St. Marys Hospital Architectural Office for 7 years and Alvin E. Benike Inc. for 24 years as an estimator and project manager, where he retired at age 57.
Doug loved fishing, hunting and trapping all of which he did for many years. Favorite hobbies included woodworking as well as carving antlers. He enjoyed being with his many friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Elaine of 29 years; and by three children, Darren (Becky) Peterson of Rochester and grandson Kyle; Troy (Sarah) Tyson of Zumbro Falls and grandson Gavin; Lori (John) Lawler of Louisiana and grandchildren, Anna Kinnetz, Courtney Kinnetz and Leo Lawler. He is also survived by a brother, Darwin (Roberta) Peterson, nephew Todd (Lisa) Peterson, nieces, Jody (Tim) Ruen and Michelle (Mark) Shanley. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Peterson and a son Ryan Douglas Peterson.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11:00am at Christ Lutheran Church in Rochester. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 5pm – 8pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
