The memorial service for Lawrence “Larry” Odein Bakken will be 2:00PM, Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Kevin Sorensen officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00PM, Thursday, October 20th at the church.
Mr. Bakken, age 67 of Rochester, died on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Larry was born on March 28, 1944 in Rochester to Odein and Lorraine (Hetzel) Bakken. He married Virginia Huckins on October 18,1968 in Cresco, Iowa. Mr. Bakken was a life-long resident of Rochester and worked for Palmer Soderberg Construction as a drywall/plasterer tender. He was a member of the Local 405 Laborers Union.
Larry is survived by his wife, Virginia; three daughters, Sandra Bourquin of Rochester, Sheila (Dino Lange) Hegseth of Wanamingo and Sara (Terry “Twink”) Schroeder of Rochester; four grandchildren, Melissa (Ben) Stetson of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Samantha Kraft of Rochester, Whitney Hegseth of Wanamingo and Michael Lawrence Schroeder of Rochester; two great-granddaughters, Abigail Novotny and Alison Stetson; three sisters, Sharon Town of Stewartville, Lois Grangaard of Rochester and Marilyn (John) Newell of Eyota; four brothers, Leonard “Herb” (Debbie) Bakken of Phoenix, Arizona, Steven (Bev) Bakken of Rochester, Richard (Jackie) Bakken of Virginia and Dale Bakken of Stewartville. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Rudy and Daniel Bakken, and one sister, Linda Eversman.
Larry loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, football and listening to Johnny Cash music.
