Noreen Adell (McCarthy) Skogen

Noreen Adell Skogen, 77 of Rochester, joined her loving husband with the Lord on Monday, October 3, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Noreen Adell McCarthy was born November 7, 1933 in Rochester to Justin and Lillian (Doole) McCarthy. Noreen attended St. John’s Grade School, and graduated from Lourdes High School in 1951. She married Richard “Dick” Skogen at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on December 1, 1951. She worked at various businesses in Rochester and ultimately retired from Olmsted County after over 16 years as a collections officer. Noreen was involved with the Rochester Senior Center, Senior Center Quilters, Red Hat Society, Rochester Area Credit Professionals, and ABWA (American Business Women’s Association), where she was voted “Woman of the Year”. Noreen also loved to volunteer her time and talent in the community. Her volunteer services included St. Francis Church and the Mayo Medical System, where she assisted patients and visitors in numerous ways. Noreen loved being “Mrs. Claus” for over 25 years, every holiday season, traveling throughout the community assisting “Santa” (Dick) with his route.  Noreen’s true passion was to be a loving grandmother for her grandchildren, making everyone feel like they were her favorite. There was never a May Day or Easter that passed without a basket for everyone. Noreen was also known for her incredible love of baking and crafts.

She is survived by Michael (Karen) Skogen of Rosemount, Steven (Marsha) Skogen of Rochester, David (Noreen) Skogen of Spokane, WA, Lori Skogen of Rochester and Diane (Roger) Tlougan of Rochester; Fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jean Calderon of Albert Lea and Lillian (Marvin) Larsen of Washington State. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” (in 2010) her parents, and great granddaughter, Kalli Joy (in 2010).

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, October 7, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Mark McNea officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Noreen’s body will be donated to Mayo Clinic for research.

Never to be forgotten, I have so many wonderful memories knowing your mom over the years, working together at Wongs, Michaels, our trip to Seattle Wa, playing cards and anytime I didn't know how to do or handle something just call my good friend Noreen she would help me through it, and she could bake she made all the cake for my mom & dads 50th. I can still see her standing outside the mobile home waving goodbye when we left for Arizona. She was a wonderful beautiful friend.

Love and Prayer to all the family.

Last night-- when I heard the news of your mom's death --What moved through me was a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, and to say good-bye-- but remember not just that she died, but that she lived -- And that her life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

I want you to know that your Mom and my dear friend will always be alive in my heart.  I am sure the quote below is what she would have told us all:

"Remember me

My name, my days, my strife;

Then I'll ride upon the wings of time

And live an endless life."

Yes, she will always be alive in our hearts.

My deepest sympathy to the family --

Mike, Steve, David, Lori, Diane - I am so sorry to hear about your Mom.  Beleive me, I know what it's like to loose both parents so close together, but I also believe that they are now together.

Gather strengh from each other and from those family and friends who will be there for you over the next several days.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

Sherry

To Noreen's Family,

I had the pleasure of meeting Noreen "Pretty Lady" was my name for her, many years ago and have cherished her friendship. I and many of her friends would meet for dinner every now and then.  We enjoyed our time together and really never wanted the time to end.  Just last week spending time with her was ever so precious and we all knew at that time that she was tired and waiting to spend time with Dick and Kylie. My only conslation is that she is at peace and enjoying time with her heavenly father.  She will be missed immensely and i know that our monthly dinners will have that void there, but we will "cheer" her with our glass of water and not forget her beautiful smile.  She was loved by many and will be missed.

Thoughts and Prayers are with the Skogen family.

Sincerly,

Jules

I met this beautiful person in 1965, when we worked together at Wong's, She always had a smile and pleasant words for all.

No words can erase the sadness you feel, but may it help to know there are others who understand and care.

Jon, Cindy & Tyler Jenneke

Diane and family,

I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing.  I have thought often of you and your mother in these past months as you cared for her in your home.  I will say an extra prayer for her tonight.

Take care,

Jane WH

Our thoughts are with your family in this time of loss.  Noreen was a wonderful person and a true friend - her absence will be greatly felt.

Cheryl and Bryce Adams

To Noreen's family,

My prayers are with you all.  My heart is heavy - and I know your hearts are aching too.  I am so blessed to have known Noreen and to have called her my dear friend.  There is no one more special than she was. With love and prayers,

Judy

Dear family & friends of Noreen,

What a special lady we had the opportunity to have in our lives and share our love with.  She was an angel here on earth and we know she is now flying high, along with Dick, with her heavenly wings attached.  My heart has a huge void within it.  I will truly miss her but will have my fond memories of our times together.  My prayers are with you.
