Matthew “Matt” Tyler Hanson
Matthew Tyler Hanson, age 21 of Rochester, passed away with his family, friends, and loyal black lab Lacy at his side on Sunday, August 28, 2011 following a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer.
Matthew was born on March 3, 1990 in Rochester to Rodney “Rod” and Brenda Ingalls Hanson. Matt attended St. Francis Catholic Grade School, and graduated from Dover-Eyota High School in 2008. Following graduation, Matt attended Rochester Community and Technical College and completed one year of the Automobile Mechanics Program. Matt began working at Fleet Farm Rochester until 2006, most recently in the Tire Center. He was unable to complete school and continue to work due to his illness. Matt loved all things motorized. He was an avid motorcycle rider, and was proud to have his own Harley. Matt especially loved making the annual trip to the Sturgis South Dakota Motorcycle Rally with his family and friends. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and dirt-biking. Matt loved being outdoors especially in the fall, during hunting season, when he would often be seen bow and gun hunting. Matt was known as a hard worker who always did his best, and strived to enjoy life until the very end.
He is survived by his Parents Rod and Brenda, a brother Patrick, great grandmother, Evelyn Delaney, grandparents Ginger Delaney Ingalls, George and Elaine Ingalls all of Rochester, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
A funeral service for Matthew will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 10:30AM at the new River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held on the evening of Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service.

The Hanson Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Matt's passing. Though I did not know him personally I would often hear my father (Curt) talk about him when he visited your family or saw him at Fleet Farm. He spoke of what a truly nice young man he was. I only hope to live my life with same amount of courage that your son exhibited these past couple of years. Matt will be an inspiration to me as I enter the profession of nursing. My greatest sympathy and prayers to you.
Sincerely,
Rachel Aaby
I am saddened to here of the passing of Matt. I worked with him at Fleet Farm for a couple years. He and I talked quite often about his treatments, and also about his father. Matt was a good man and I am glad to have known him. My sincere condolences to Matt's family.

Rod, Brenda, Pat, Ginger, and all of Matts family,
Words cannot express our shock and dismay to learn of Matts passing. Our hearts are heavy. We remember the the energetic little boy that came to play at our house or ride bike up and down the sidewalk in the neighborhood. The boys and Mike were inseperable. He and Katie shared their first kiss during one of our garage sales. He was a pleasure to have around and we considered the boys extended family. We are so very sorry for your loss. Know that he is whole again and without pain. May God bless and keep your family as your hearts heal.

My dear dear friends,
How hard it is to say goodbye to darling Matt. He always added that little something to the day when he came in for haircuts. He would sit and chat with two old ladies for an hour. Never made us feel disrespected. And always made laugh about something. There is a big hollow spot in our hearts. We will miss him terribly.
