Alice Jean Gronvold

Alice J. Gronvold, 66, died in her home in northwest Rochester on Friday, July 1, 2011.
She was born the fourth of seven children to Lenora C.M. Starkson and Harvey E. Gronvold. Her siblings listed in order are; Charles S., Verlene J., Carol L., Alice Jean “Ollie”, Seevert B. “Bub”, Daniel Harvey and James D. “Jim” Gronvold.

She was born on April 10, 1945, at her parent’s home in rural Byron and lived there all of her school days, graduating from Byron High School in May of 1964. After graduation, she moved to Rochester and worked at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home in the Dietary Department until 1967. In January of 1967, she became an employee at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester working there over 40 years in the Dietary and Central Service Departments retiring on May 16, 2007.

She became a Charter member at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron on Feb. 10, 1963, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Church School, and in January 2008 became involved with the Interfaith Hospitality Network (I.H.N.) Ministry at Christ Lutheran as a Volunteer. She was baptized on June 23,1945, and confirmed on June 5, 1960, at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson.

She is survived by two sisters, Verlene J. (Graydon) Fosberg of Byron and Carol L. Woodward of Vadnais Heights; and two brothers, Seevert B. “Bub”Gronvold of Grand Meadow and Jim D. Gronvold of rural Byron. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, John H. (Linda) Gronvold and Brenda S. (Leslie “Junior”) Brewer both of Texas, Lynne R. Fosberg of Kasson, Kurt D. Fosberg of Byron, David (Barb) Woodward of Maplewood, Michael J. and Thomas G. Woodward both of Saint Paul, Peter M. Gronvold and Scott H. Gronvold of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, Melinda K. Gronvold of Rochester, Minnesota and Cody B. Gronvold of Grand Meadow, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey E. and Lenora C.M. Gronvold, an infant brother, Daniel Harvey, nephews, William Paul Gronvold and Erik J. Fosberg, her eldest brother, Charles S. and great-nephew, Luke Woodward. She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Howard D. “Woody” Woodward.

Visitation will be Friday July 8, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 201 Northwest Frontage Road in Byron, and also one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. also at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron.
