Jeanette Overkamp

Jeanette Overkamp, 92, of Rochester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Willows and Waters Senior Living in Rochester.

Jeanette was born January 16, 1932 in Tabor, SD. She moved with her family to Rochester, MN in 1937. She attended St. John’s Grade School and graduated from Lourdes High School in 1950. After graduation, she worked at Farmers Loan and Thrift as a secretary for 2 years.

Jeanette married her high school sweetheart, Jim Overkamp on June 2, 1951. In 1967, she went to work at St. Marys Hospital in human resources until 1974. In 1974, she and Jim moved to St. Paul and lived there until 1999. In 1999, they moved back to Rochester, for their retirement years. When in St. Paul, Jeanette worked for Mutual Services Insurance Company, as a medical secretary. She retired in 1995. She and Jim enjoyed spending their summers at their summer home at Carefree Country Club in Big Lake, MN, playing golf. During their retirement, Jeanette and Jim spent their winters in Arizona and Florida. She liked traveling the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. Her favorite thing to do was spending time and vacationing with all of her family.

Jeanette’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren thought no one could bake chocolate chip cookies and Christmas cutout cookies quite as good as Nana!

Jeanette is survived by her daughters, Jill Lacey and Jana Keena; Grandchildren, Shane (Lynette) Lacey, and Sara (Robb) Scott; Great-grandchildren, Taylor Fiegel, Abbe (Kale) Altman, Kylie Lacey, Ethan and Sawyer Van Horn and Great, great-grandson, J.J. Fiegel. Jeanette is also survived by her brothers, James (Shirley) Kocer, Joe (Marilyn) Kocer; sister, Judy Ryan and several nieces and nephews. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; son, Joe; sons-in-law, Kyle Lacey and John Keena; grandson, Chris Fiegel; brother-in-law, Don Ryan and by her parents.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels, Mayo Hospice, and Willows and Waters for their exceptional care, kindness and the love that was shown to their mother.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church, 1600 11th Ave. SE, Rochester with Father Shawn Haremza officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rochester.

Condolences

The family of Jeanette Overkamp has received the following condolences.

Jill and Jan, our heat felt condolences to you.  Aunt Jeanette  was just the best.  Always a kind word, and the time to listen.  We take comfort,  as you should, that she is now at peace.  Her memory will live on in all us who knew her.  RIP Aunt Jeanette.

My deepest condolences to you Jim, Judy, Joe, Jill, and Jan, and your families. Thankfully, Jeanette was granted many years, but I know losing her is still very hard.

i have many fond memories of her and all of you from my growing up years. And I think of Jeanette in more recent years when I would see her, always as a very classy lady with a ready smile. Now I think she must be smiling as she has many reunions with loved ones already in heaven.

My husband, Jerry, and my family join me in sending our sympathy

I will keep Jeanette and all of you in my prayers. God grant you strength and peace.

Love, Cousin Bonnie Behme

Jeanette was beautiful inside and out. She had a way to make a person feel valued and loved. I sure wish I was able to attend Jeanette’s funeral but I am unable at this time. I am hoping the funeral will be live streamed.  My deepest sympathy to her family for I know she will be deeply missed. God bless you all and know that Jeanette is in a beautiful place. Hopefully , we will all be together someday in Heaven ????????????

Our most sincere condolences to the family of Jeanette. I have known Jill for over 40 years and witnessed the deep love she had for her parents. May Gods love and compassion support you in the days ahead.

Jeanette was my sister Connie's age, and the two of them would hang out together whenever we visited Minnesota. She was at the Kocer reunion two years ago, and you could tell she loved being the matriarch of such a big family. Always gracious, always greeting us younger kids when she came to the Hilltop Farm where my folks lived. I see her mother in her face--two beautiful ladies!  Lynn and Harry
