Norlin T. “Ted” Winkler
Norlin “Ted” Winkler passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Season’s Hospice following a lengthy illness.
Norlin T. Winkler was born in Virginia, MN. to Norlin Winkler Sr. and Myrtle Nelson Winkler on August 31, 1930. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Virginia, MN in 1948. Mr. Winkler attended Rochester Community College and is a graduate of Winona State University.
In 1951, Ted and Elizabeth M. Haushofer were married at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester. They raised three children: a son, Craig Winkler, and two daughters: Margaret (Jack) Daley and Terese (Kevin) Miller. Both daughters and their families reside near Hudson, WI.
Mr. Winkler joined Mayo Clinic in 1950. He held many positions during his tenure in the Radiology Department at Mayo. He began as a technologist, and served as a technical analyst from 1965 to 1983, when he was named program coordinator for the Radiography Training School. He was appointed instructor in the Mayo Medical School in 1978 and assistant professor in the Mayo Medical School in 1984. Mr. Winkler was named Associate in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology by the Mayo Board of Governors in 1981. He held a variety of positions in various professional societies while with Mayo Clinic.
Ted was an avid fisherman and reader, and will be remembered by his family, especially his grandchildren for the many stories he wrote and told.
Mr. Winkler was preceded in death by a son, Craig. He will be dearly missed by his surviving wife, Betty, daughters Peggy and Teri and grandchildren, Sam and Claire Daley, and William, Jake, and Hannah Miller. He is also survived by siblings, David Winkler, Katherine (Winkler) Groschen, Rev. Gretchen Winkler and Shirley (Winkler) Christensen.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 11:00AM at River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at River Park Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
