May 10, 1945 – February 8, 2024
Mong Nget, 78, passed away peacefully at home on February 8th, 2024.
Mong was born May 10th, 1945 to Nget Ros and Jim Chun in Takéo Province, Cambodia.
Growing up in Cambodia, Mong was the second oldest of seven children. As an older brother, he was tasked with watching over his siblings and taking care of them. He was a selfless person all throughout his life. He gained basic education as a monk’s disciple and learned to read and write. Being unable to further his education due to family responsibilities, he put all his efforts into farming. He married his wife, Ry Ouk not long after and was blessed with seven children. When the Khmer Rouge arose in 1975, Mong was faced with hardship every day, but he persevered clinging to any hopes of life. Granted a natural talent of cooking, he worked as a chef allowing him to live and provide for his family until the regime came to an end. On March 19, 1983 he immigrated to the United States with his seven children.
After dedicating more than 25 years at Rochester Meats, Mong retired at the age of 62. He befriended many friends over the years and formed lifelong bonds. He was compassionate, a jokester and loved to spread joy to family and friends. He never hesitated to share anything and everything. He enjoyed cooking and used his food as a form of love. Gardening was one of his passions and he tended to his plants dearly.
Mong will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ry Ouk, his sisters Noun Nget, Touch Nget, Pech Nget, and their children Reth N. Ung (Sokhannara Ung), Alexsa Ngin (Sophal San), Veth Ngin (Vanna You), Roeurn Ngin (Somvang Moanboua), Sarom Ngin (Yon Khuth), Sarun N. Rhodes (Joseph Rhodes), and Sarem Ngin (Sam Phommakhy).
Mong will also be fondly remembered by his 16 grandchildren, Leo, Malinda, Sammy, Dahw, William, Tyler, Kaiu, Annabelle, Gaullayan, Nyah, Layla, Madison, Kingston, Elisa, David, Phomvilai and his 5 great-grandchildren, Aisha, Maxin, Saylen, Samren, and Sarowen.
Mong is preceded in death by his parents, Nget Ros and Jim Chun, and brothers, Jean Nget, Man Nget, and Veth Nget.
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.
