Wayne H. Bastian

Wayne Henry Bastian, 99, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024 at his home.

Wayne was born on November 28, 1924 in York Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to Otto and Annie (Prinsen) Bastian. He grew up in rural Greenleafton, MN. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served his country during WW2. On August 29, 1948 he married Marilyn Ruesink (the little redhead girl from church) at the Dutch Reformed Church in Greenleafton, MN. Together they celebrated over 75 years of marriage. The couple moved to Rochester to raise their family. Wayne worked over-the-road for Gamble-Robinson and later was employed by Rochester Public School as a Maintenance Engineer. They enjoyed traveling, antiques, collecting clocks, square dancing, working in his yard with his flowers and being with family and friends. He especially loved spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren. He was a super grandpa.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his sister Muriel Pooler, his children Lynn (Kathy) Bastian, Ron (Sandra) Bastian, Deb (Scott) Fredericksen, grandchildren Nathan (Jenny), Joe (Nicole), Dan (Annie), Brent (Kara), Tommy (Jenn), Michael (Ellen), Zach (Stacy), Lisa (John), Christa, Jon, great-grandchildren Shay, Lylah, Owen, Max, Ava, Alexis, Ellie, Izzy, Mia, Mason, Harper, Derek, Lacy, and Finley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

The Memorial Service for Wayne will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:00AM at Evangel United Methodist Church (2645 N Broadway, Rochester, MN 55906) with Pastor David Werner officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church with luncheon to follow.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation and thanks to the Mayo Clinic Hospice team for the wonderful care and kindness they showed while taking care of our Dad.

Memorials may be directed to Evangel United Methodist Church in Rochester or a charity of the donor’s choosing.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your patriarch. He was always a smiling face whenever I ran into him in the neighborhood. I'm not going to be able to make the visitation or service, but my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was saddened to learn of  Wayne's passing and share my deepest sympathy with Marilyn and family members. It was a pleasure working with Wayne at Rochester Technical College where he managed a maintenance team that served the college well. I remember Wayne as a quiet, dependable, kind man; a skilled engineer and fair supervisor; and a colleague and friend liked by all. Wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Marilyn and family, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Wishing you peace during this difficult time. I will always remember Wayne as a kind, giving, and caring man.

Wayne was a very dear friend to my grandparents, Don and Louise Halling.

I loved seeing Wayne and Marilyn at church when I was growing up, a strong in faith and family couple.

Prayers and love to Marilyn and family. Rejoicing in knowing that Wayne is definitely welcomed into Jesus’s arms.

Deepest condolences to Ron and the family.

I know your dad will be missed by all.

My deepest sympathies to Marilyn and her family. May God Bless Wayne's memory and His Eternal Light Shine Upon him.

You're in my thoughts and prayers.
