Sandra Marie (Sandi) Schommer – Minneapolis
Sandra Marie Schommer, 33, of Minneapolis, MN, after a year long, very hard, battle with leukemia, died Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, at her childhood home in Rochester MN, surrounded by her loved ones.
Sandi was born January 19, 1990, in Rochester, MN to Peter and Martha (Strabala) Schommer. She graduated from Lourdes High School, Rochester, MN in 2008, and in 2012 from St. Cloud State University with a degree in psychology.
She worked a variety of jobs but was most excited about her work as a Youth Counselor which she did during the last number of years in Minneapolis, MN. She was incredibly passionate about her kids at St. Joes, always planning new fun things to keep them engaged.
Besides her “one and only” Damon, Sandi’s other love was for Tinkerbell. Always sweet and a little spunky, she never wanted to grow up.
Sandi doted over her eight nieces and nephews. Her job as Auntie Sandi was her most important one. She would always plan activities to keep the kids entertained. There was never a dull moment when she babysat. Sandi loved doing puzzles and logic puzzles, relaxing in the neighborhood wading pool, pampering herself with home spa days, watching movies, and playing games.
She is survived by fiancé Damon Wrobleski; Joie Schmitt; parents Peter & Marti Schommer, Korin & Steve Lindstrand; sisters Karla (Jack) Broadrick, Patti (John) Uhal, and Michaela Schommer; brother Tim (Natasha) Schommer and Cavan (Sarahi) Wrobleski; grandmother Mary Anne Strabala; grandfather Francis Schommer; and nieces and nephews: Angela, Ellie, Michael, Lucas, Benjamin, Avery, Naomi, and Nathan. She was preceded in death by cousin Joshua Schommer; grandfather Lynne Strabala; grandmother Germaine Schommer, and grandmother Coni Valentine.
Visitation will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home Sunday January 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM with a Rosary and time for sharing memories at 4:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at Pax Christi Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A funeral luncheon will be held immediately after the Mass followed by the burial at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Condolences
The family of Sandra “Sandi” Schommer has received the following condolences.
Dear Marti, Pete, and family, I am so saddened to hear of the illness and death of your dear daughter Sandi. She was always a bright spot in a crowd. She had such a wonderful laugh and a beautiful smile. It just isn't fair to loose a child.
I offer a quote I found after my parents passed that gives me comfort: "Death leaves a hole that no one can heal but, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
Blessing to you and all who love Sandi.
It was an honor and privilege to be part of the team taking care of Sandi on her final journey. She was blessed to have such a loving and caring family and significant other. The love filled the room. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Marti and Pete, please accept my heartfelt condolences. No words can convey how sad it is to lose a child no matter their age. So sorry for your loss.
I went to high school with Sandi. It's because of her kindness our freshman year that I was able to make the close friendships I did then. I will be forever grateful to her for that. She was an amazing person whose smile and laugh was like a ray of sunshine. I'm so very sorry to hear of her passing. She will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her grieving loved ones.
My deepest sympathies to Sandi’s loving family. I worked with Sandi at St. Joe’s. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be very missed. You are all in my prayers.
Mary Diercks
Cousins, Aunt Marti, & Uncle Pete,
We are so sorry we can’t be there with y’all to mourn the loss of Sandi. At least now grandpa has someone to be ornery with up in heaven as they look down over us. We love you all so much and are always here for you.
Lots of love from your Virginia Strabala's,
Bear, Vernon (Abraham), Jamie, & Jeremy
