Theresa M. Loomis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Marie Loomis, 62, of Pine Island, MN. Theresa passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at her home.

Theresa was born October 17, 1961, in Wabasha, MN to Matthew and Ila (Irish) Lyons. Her father passed away very early in her life; her mother later married Lloyd Kuhfuss who raised her like his own. On November 29, 1979, she married Mark (Smiley) Loomis Sr. She graduated from Mayo High School in 1980.

Theresa made a living cleaning houses while Smiley and his brother developed their growing business, Gopher Septic Service. In 1990, Theresa took over running the Gopher Septic Service office while continuing to clean houses and raise their family. Over the next decade, Theresa and Smiley welcomed their first three of four beloved grandchildren.

In 2015, Theresa was diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer. However, with incredible strength and determination that so many admired, she fought her disease. She was declared to be in remission in 2017.

Theresa adored her grandchildren, children, and family. She cherished time with her family and has by far won the best Grandma of the Year award, year after year, since 2008. She loved decorating for every holiday, top to bottom, inside and out. She especially loved hosting Christmas and her annual 4th of July party. She enjoyed spending time on road trips with Smiley, visiting with friends, treasure-hunting at antique fairs and craft shows, playing cards and making special moments count for everybody around her. She particularly loved summer. Every hot, summer day you would catch her lying in the sunshine or working on landscaping in the yard.

She is survived by her loving husband, Smiley; her sons, Mark Jr. (Angie), Matthew (Molly), and Luke (Katie); four grandchildren, Logan, Lauren, Brock, and Ila; four grand-puppies; and many other close family and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather, two sisters, and two brothers, among many other loved ones.

Theresa was a friend, mother, and grandmother to every single person who walked through her door. We will miss her dearly and are so grateful for the time we were able to spend with her. So many loved her, and we will never forget her tenacity, wit, and charm. Theresa was truly one of a kind with a heart of gold and a smile that would light up any room.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Lisa Hawe officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
