Duane (“Dewey”) Anthony Stensrud, age 76, of Onalaska, Wisconsin (formerly Rochester, MN; Stewartville, MN; and originally Hammond, MN), passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023, as he slept. Dewey was born on August 18, 1947, to E. “Lawrence” and Margret Stensrud. Dewey was married to the love of his life, Anita Raymond, from October 31, 1970, until her passing on January 31, 2011. Dewey was then blessed to find love again when he married Judith “Judy” (Dahl-Byom) on August 15, 2015.
Dewey entered the United States Navy in 1965, serving initially on a radar ship, prior to serving on swift boats during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. Dewey continued to demonstrate his pride in his service and country throughout his life. Dewey spent most of his working career as foreman of the shipping department at Crenlo Company for 30 years. Dewey was then lead custodian at Mayo Clinic for just over 10 years.
After retirement, Dewey enjoyed helping others whenever he could; mixing and baking lefse and frying donuts with his wife Judy; watching eagles and ducks out their living room window; driving and fishing his pontoon boat; and teasing children, especially his grandkids and great-grandchildren and any wait staff brave enough to endure his playful taunting.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Judy Stensrud; daughter, Tammy (Larry) Nielsen and their children Erik and Alex; son, Ross (Debbie) Stensrud, his children, Travis, Dominic, and Nick; great-grandson, Braiden Stensrud; sisters, Mary Berndt (Wally), Sandra Sola, Carol Williams (Mike), Irene Barnhardt (Rick); and brothers, Charlie (Elaine), Hank, Bill (Julie), and Mark.
Dewey is preceded in death by his first wife, Anita; father, E. “Lawrence”; mother, Margret; brothers Phillip and Rudy Stensrud; nephews, Jason and Tyler; brother-in-laws Paul and Rudy; and sister-in-law Cindy.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to to the VFW or American Legion in Stewartville, MN.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Marion Road Christian Church with Rev. Rick Walston officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service on Friday. A luncheon will follow the service with burial at Marion Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.

My heart is sad for the family for their loss! You will all be in my prayers in the coming days, as you walk through this time. It is not an easy path but God in his goodness will comfort you and give you his peace. We didn't have the blessings of being together with family as we were too far away. Hearing from them was always a plus. Dewey kept in touch with Rube through e-mails and Rube appreciated hearing from him often.
