Judith “Judy” Haas

Judith “Judy” Rae Haas, 80 of Rochester, MN died Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

She was born December 30, 1942 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester to Kenneth and Esther (Wallace) Keehn. Judy worked at Lawler Cleaners while in high school. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1960. She married Bill “Red” Haas on October 6, 1962 in Rochester. The couple spent two years in Colorado Springs, where she worked at Penrose Hospital while Bill was in the army. Upon returning to Rochester, she entered nursing school to become an LPN at Mayo Clinic. After trying parachuting, she decided she’d rather fly a plane instead of jumping out of them. She was a nurse for Neuman Air Charter while she worked on her pilot’s license. She then went to work for IBM, where she worked for over 25 years. Eventually, they bought their own airplane. She loved SCUBA diving in the Cayman Islands, did trap shooting on the IBM team, and she bowled for Tropic Lanes in Rochester. Judy spent summers at the cabin on the Mississippi River, fishing and riding her jet ski with her friends, the “Mississippi Mermaids”. She enjoyed winters in Venice, FL, reading books on the beach and being visited by family.

She is survived by her husband Bill “Red” of Rochester, daughter Lori Haas (Tom Kline) of Oronoco, granddaughter Maranda (Nick) Oeltjen of Pine Island, and great-granddaughter Ramsey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Darlene Lovett and Janice Garner, and her brother Gene Keehn.

The memorial service for Judy will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church in Rochester officiated by Rev. TJ Parlette. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, December 13, 2023 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A luncheon will follow. Interment will be at a later date at the MN State Veteran’s Cemetery, Preston, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 28  (PO Box 6226 Rochester, MN 55903) Paws and Claws of Rochester, or donor’s choice.

Condolences

The family of Judith “Judy” Haas has received the following condolences.

One of HE BEST client's I ever had.....Judy was a NO BS kind of person...STRAIGHT FORWARD!...In this journey through life I was lucky to have you and your family as friends and Client's....See you later!....

Bill and family, I am so sorry for your loss.  Judy was a force to be reckoned with (in a positive way).  She was a godsend to me when I lost Sonny.  And she kept me in the loop afterwards.  I cannot tell you how much that meant to me.  Bill, I'm sorry I cannot be there tomorrow.   I will give you a call when I get back to town.

My Deepest Condolences to you Bill, Lori and Family, for your loss of "Judy".  I am so saddened at the loss of my friend and neighbor.  I will always remember my and Judy's times of chatting on so many subjects, because she is the best person to  converse with, on any topics.  I will miss you "Judy"

Red, Lori and family.  We haven't seen you all in a few years.  Sad to hear about Judy passing.   We will pray for you all.

Bill and Lori,

I’m so very sorry for your loss. Judy had a beautiful heart and was such a kind, welcoming Venice neighbor. I’m grateful I got to know her I will miss her. My prayers are with you and your family.

“He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:3

I have many memories of Judy.  I was on the RFA team but moved to the PDT before she became manager.  The PDT worked very closely with the RFA team.  We used to walk during the lunch hour out to Manufacturing.  Ostensibly for exercise but also as stress relief and just to talk.  We shopped at a Mall Of America outing.  I have twins and she was quite surprised when I bought a large number of socks two of each color for them.  Once a developer told me he had done a statement of direction through another RFA group.  I asked her to find the wording for me.  She called me up to inform me there was no statement of direction on that device in any IBM RFA. After we chastised the developer, we laughed about the stealth statement of direction for quite some time.  When she retired she would come and picked me up so we could go to lunch.  I would tell her about the ridiculous things happening since she left and ask her how I would know when it was time to retire.  She always answered, you will know.  And of course she was right.  We got together in Venice when we first started going there for the season.  Unfortunately, it has been awhile since I saw her.  It seems there is just never enough time and people disappear from your life too quickly.  I am in Venice now so I will not make the service.  I am sorry for your loss.  My thoughts will be with you.  Diane Moench

Red, so sorry for your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Bill

Dear Judy, Bill and Lori…To say I was shocked to learn of your death, dear Judy, is to put it mildly. We, the “pretend card club”were so fortunate to have lunch with you just last week; it was sure precious time with you. Bill and Lori, to tell you we were all so glad to see Judy, tells you how much we missed not seeing her this last year as much as we had before. Her summer invitations to your beautiful home on the river were wonderful. We will all miss her so much, but know she was loved by all who were lucky enough to know her and respected just as much. And Judy, so sorry you had to endure so much pain and now you are relieved from that. Rest in peace, dear friend.
