Howard L. Borgen
Howard Llewellyn Borgen was born January 9, 1933 to Elmer and Edna (Dahl) Borgen in Lanesboro, MN, and passed away on October 17, 2023 in Rochester, MN.
Howard lived in rural Chatfield, MN. He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1951. He served in the US Army as a tank mechanic in Japan from 1954-1956. After his military service was completed, he purchased the family farm and farmed until 1998. Howard also spent 26 years as a fire warden and weather spotter with Pilot Mount Township.
Howard married Shirley A. Benson in 1967. Shirley passed away in 1993. He married Barbara F. (Schroeder) Danielson in 1998; she passed away in 2022.
Howard enjoyed traveling, playing cards, volunteering with his church and community, and participating in the national honor flight.
Howard is survived by his two sons, Kevin (Joyce) and Kris (Shannon) of Chatfield, MN. Grandchildren: Josh Lien (Ashley Mueller), Ann Borgen, Lynn Borgen, Andy Borgen (Amanda), and Amanda Borgen (Alex Bigalk); step-children Deborah Erickson; step-daughter in law, Lisa Danielson; great grandchildren: Brooke Lien, Charlie Lien, Katie Borgen, Abbie Borgen, and Shelby Bigalk; step-grandchildren: Matt (Britney) Hacking, Christy Hacking, Garrett Hacking, Alyssa Danielson (Adam Fuchs) and Misty Danielson; step-great grandchildren Leo and Magellan Fuchs; siblings Palmer Borgen of Rochester, MN; Marion Phelps of Spearfish, SD; Eva Bernard of Stewartville, MN; Phyllis (Al) Blazing of Vero Beach, Florida; Donna Gingras of Vero Beach, Florida; Ruth (Wayne) McColley of Dodge Center, MN; and Linda (Stan) Scott of Rochester, MN.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Edna (Dahl) Borgen; first wife, Shirley (Benson); second wife, Barbara (Schroeder Danielson); stepchildren Mike and Mark Danielson.
His memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Macken Funeral Home, River Park Chapel 1105 12th St SE Rochester with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Chatfield Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the donor’s choice.

I didn't know Howard well but so enjoyed talking to him the last two years at the Waters. He was an absolute great sport and always participated in activities in the Marsh. I will miss seeing his smile when visiting my parents there.
