Cynthia “Cindy” Joy Shannon
Cynthia Joy Shannon passed away October 11, 2023, after a long and very courageous battle with biliary cancer.
Cindy was born in Zumbrota on March 5, 1954, to Joyce and Colleen Fredrickson. After high school graduation in Wanamingo, she started her career at Mayo Clinic in the Central Appointment Desk. She went on to become a liaison with programmers in the IT department. She was very popular with co-workers and was known as the candy lady in her office.
Cindy knew how to bring fun and humor to the room wherever she went. She had a large battalion of friends in her life and loved going out to lunch with them. She was an awesome older sister, aunt, daughter, wife, and friend and will be greatly missed. Cindy always had a very generous heart, especially for those down on their luck.
In 1989, Cindy married the love of her life, Tom Shannon, and spent the next 27 years making a life with him until his passing in 2016. Cindy found joy in reading, music, traveling, spending time with her friends and relatives, planning family trips, and anything Mayberry or lighthouse. Always up for trying new adventures, she spent a summer volunteering at Split Rock Lighthouse as a tour guide dressed as a lighthouse keeper’s wife, which was the thrill of a lifetime for her. She also had various volunteer jobs at her snowbird home in Maple Leaf Senior Country Club in FL. Cindy had a real talent for making holidays fun with decorations, games, and prizes. She always made an effort to engage with each person present and had a passion for social events.
She leaves behind her father, Joyce Fredrickson, of Wanamingo; sisters, Julie Blahnik of Rochester, Rhonda (Dave) Canale of Rochester, Kay (Eddie Maldonado) Fredrickson of Ridge Manor, FL, Jill (Randy)Vicker of Hillsboro, OR; brother Dale Fredrickson of Wanamingo; stepchildren Ryan Shannon and Jackie Grandstrand of Minneapolis and their children; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Tom, brother Fred, her mother, and brother-in-law Fran Blahnik.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. There will be a lunch following the service.

Our sympathy to Cindy's family at this difficult time. I worked with Cindy at Mayo and remember many wonderful times while at work and when we would have gatherings outside of Mayo. Her laugh and caring ways will be remembered by all who were fortunate to know her. She fought a tough battle, but is now at peace and enjoying eternal life with Tom. I was fortunate to call Cindy my friend.
We will miss you Cindy, but have so many wonderful memories,
Sherry and Bernie
Tom and Cindy were our neighbors for most of the 27 years. So many good times and memories, lots of laughing and always helping each other when needed.
You don't find a lot of neighbors like that anymore. RIP Cindy and now you are back with Tom. Try to keep him out of trouble, if that is possible. You will be missed by so many.
I remember Cindy making Christmas time a magical event for the entire Fredrickson family. Every year she & Tom had the celebration in their home displaying perfectly arranged decorations and serving a feast full of delicious foods. In honour of her Norweigian heretige, Cindy would also serve lefsa, polse and, for the brave of heart, lutefisk. It was a fun-filled time and everyone enjoyed themselves. Cindy organized games for the young and old alike, and the fun was highlighted with gifts from their "Secret Santa." Cindy's bright smile and charismatic personality will be sorely missed by all!
Ben, Joyce, and family,
We extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to all of you during this difficult time. My heart is broken following the news of Cindy's passing. We were lifetime friends, and classmates, sharing many school memories, work memories, and our birthdays were just three days apart. We both ventured on to live in Rochester, and both worked at Mayo. We often met to catch up on lunch dates. Then she retired and expanded her horizons further away. We continued to stay connected as we were able, with.lunch dates, or phone calls.
I will truly miss Cindy, and i will forever cherish the many memories, and hold them dear to my heart. No more pain and suffering, May she Rest in Peace, finding her eternal home with Jesus.
Shared from the Heart,
Rodney and Kathy (Broin) Nardinger

I am so sorry for your loss. I graduated from high school with Cindy and was able to visit with her many times after that. She was always happy and smiling.
I will keep all those special memories in my heart. She is at peace and in comfort with the Lord. May God carry you through the difficult hours and days.
