Peter H. McHardy

Peter H. McHardy passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 following a fall at his home.   Peter was born on February 4, 1935 in Hibbing, MN. He attended Hibbing High School and graduated from St. John’s Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin. After high school he enlisted and served two years in the US Army in Germany. He obtained a degree in business and later married Mary Jane Hanmer at the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing, MN on June 19, 1965.  Later that year, the couple moved to Rochester where Peter purchased Northgate Liquor, and subsequently built Plaza Liquor, which he owned and operated until his death. Peter enjoyed summers at the lake and time with his family. In the past, he served as a member of the Rochester Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals and was a member of the Exchange Club. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane; two children, George (Dorte) McHardy of Calgary Alberta, and Susan (Martin) Lenoir of Lafayette, CA; grandchildren Lia and Nevan McHardy and Hazel, Oliver and Quinn Lenoir; a sister, Elizabeth “Bickey” (John “Jack”) Petroske of Hibbing and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethelyn, and a sister, Mary “Posey” Kaim.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, December 3, 2010 at River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army or a charity of the donor’s choice.
